I knew my hair would all fall out within the first 2-3 weeks so got my long hair cut up really short first before anything fell out. To be honest I was very tearful at the hairdressers and could hardly look at it. My hair was lovely as were the hairdressers especially as I had been going to them monthly for years. When my hair did begin to fall out (in handfuls), yes it was unpleasant but at that stage I was more than ready to have my head shaved. My husband and kids all took part so it was less traumatic for them to see the hair going. I was fine with the head shave as I already had my tears done. It’s a personal choice to shave or cut but you’ll be amazed how quick you get over your hair and just focus on getting through chemo and getting on with things. I didn’t wear a wig and just got some nice scarves and tied them up instead.
