Recovering after a lobectomy?

Hello,

I'm 48, and having a lung lobectomy next week. Just wondering if anyone who has had one could tell me what they felt like afterwards, what they did to help recovery, and how long it took to get back to normal?

Thank you very much!

  • I would also like to ask the same question as I am having 1/3 to 1/2 one lung removed next Tuesday as I have stage 1 lung cancer.  My surgeon tells me I should be in hospital 3 - 4 days.

    Any practical advice welcome!

  • Hello Japananny,

How did you get on with your lobectomy? I had mine (double lobectomy,  right side) at the end of January after all. I stayed in for 5 days. I'm still really tired and breathless, but getting more active. Doing breathing exercises and walking. Still have strange bubbling sensations and odd pains on both sides! How about you?

    Hope you are doing well!

  • I’m recovering well, or so all the professionals tell me!  I still get a bit breathless and tired, but it is improving.  I had one third of my right lung removed 8 weeks ago.  I have very down some days, which I understand is common, but I am driving again, walking most days, but not like I used to, and haven’t started swimming or Pilates yet.  I miss all the exercise!

This week I see my lung surgeon and have a chest X-ray so I am hoping for good news.  Feeling positive.
