Help with adult son's cancer

Is there anyone out there who has experienced the cancer diagnosis of an andult child? My son is 40 years old and was diagnosed with bowel cancer which had spread 7 months ago. He was on chemo and was then offered a research trial for a specific drug for his type of cancer. Just before he was going to start this trial he was admitted to hospital with unbearable pains. It appeared that the cancer had spread to the spine with several lesions along the spinal cord. He has just started radio therapy while still in hospital. Is there anyone out there that has gone through this experience. I am heartbroken and feel totally powerless and depressed.

  • Hello Radiohead2

I am not sure if you are mum or dad to this precious son and i guess it really does not matter.I am the mother of a son who was 33 when he was diagnosed with bowel cancer and seconday liver mets  It is the most devastating event for a parent. Our job is to protect our children and when this happens there seems to be nothing that we can do, except to be there support and love them.  If you wish you can read my posts.  I hope that the radiotherapy does its job and gives your son some respite.  I send love to you and your son and wish that i could give you some pearls of wisdom.

  • Hello Radiohead.  Sorry you have not had a response yet.  I have been looking through recent posts but have not come across anyone who is posting about an adult child currently being treated for cancer.    What is the prognosis for your beloved son?  I am so sorry your hopes for the trial did not come off. Has the radiotherapy already started - please do tell us how things are going.  Annie
