Hello Ann,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having a tough time coping with chemo and I hope that others who have been in a similar position will come along shortly to offer advice.
Until then I thought that perhaps you might want to have a look at these pages from our website with information on the side effects of chemotherapy and on sickness which may help a bit.
Also, feel free to give our cancer nurses and ask any question you may have. Their lines are open Monday - Friday between 9 a.m - 5 p.m on 0808 800 4040.
Best wishes,

Hi Ann
sorry to hear you’re having a hard time, I’ve just had my 4th FLOT today and it is such a gruelling regime. What is stopping you eating is it nausea, blockage, sore mouth? I haven’t had any kind of blockage throughout my diagnosis and treatment so swallowing hasn’t been a problem, my nausea is controlled by ondansetron and domperidone, my mouth is no longer sore due to difflam mouthwash. I also use fortisip if I’m not feeling like food
Your nurses should have suggestions to helping you cope, make sure you make good use of them, if you’re not eating or drinking you’re going to feel much worse and dehydrated, I really feel for you.
My last session was delayed by 10 days due to high temp and neuropathy and I felt so well having that extra time off chemo, almost normal. Gives me real hope that once it’s finished I may bounce back better than I thought.
Good luck to you Ann hope you get help soon x
Hi Louise
I'm feeling much better now thank you.. I think the cancer must be near the exit of my stomach making digestion very slow after treatment.. i have had same medication as you. my fourth FLOT on Monday.. I've found it so hard but almost done now.. my op should be around 17th December, when is yours? Have you got to have 4 more FLOT after your op? That's the bit I'm dreading really.. just going to try and enjoy the break between my last chemo and my op if i can..
Ann x
Hi Ann
glad to hear you’re a little better. It looks like we’re in the same boat with our timescales. Mine is also lower down in stomach but only showed as an innocent looking ulcer was found cancerous after a third biopsy. So no obstruction, I’m hoping for a partial gastrectomy. Not had any dates yet but they said they want to do another laparoscopy and then surgery about a week later but that would be around 22nd December and I’m a little scared of being in hospital at that time, so I really don’t know.
Yes im having 4 more after surgery, it’s got me nervous too. I spoke to my oncologist about it the other day and she said not everyone makes the 4 rounds if it’s too hard or they can mess with dose to see if it’s bearable. She said also depends on success of the first treatments, if its been shown to be good they try and push you further. I think the 2 weekly cycle is just so hard, I barely get a few good days before we’re off again and it’s so emotionally and physically draining.
Days 3 onwards tend to be worse for me so I’m just waiting to ride it out and enjoy some time before the op, picc line is coming out on Tuesday so I’m looking forward to that. The nurses had me ring the bell yesterday to mark the end of the first hurdle, it was very emotional but a great feeling. I’ve been following a girl on Instagram who had just completed her 2nd post op chemo and her recovery is going really well so it’s given me a boost to see it can and will be done with soon.
Goid luck for your 4th cycle, feel free to chat anytime. X
