Radiotherapy for Throat Cancer

Hello all,

I have posted my little story on introduce yourself and basically I have been diagnosed with Stage 1 Throat cancer.

The prognosis is hopeful and I remain cheerful and positive. Its taken a while for the actual treatment to start so glad to get on with it at last.

I started my first day of radiotherpy today and have 29 more treatments to go over 6 week period.
I have made a little computer programme that logs my side effects and summarises episodes of each heading and I plan on keeping a daily log of how things went/ how I feel ( good and bad ) and map out my journey. I find it therapuetic.

I will share periodically in the hope that even if it helps one person as well as myself  it will be worthwhile.

So day 1 was fine and I dont really feel any difference or notice anything.
One small point is that the mask made was slightly harder than when it was first made as it has set little harder over the weeks and was a little more moveable on the day made.
Took about 10 mins for actual radiotherpay treatment itself.
Drove home fine.

Meet with advanced practioner nurse every Thurs to discuss progress.
Aware might be a little different along the way but all good after day 1.

kind regards

Ian

  • Thanks Ian, I really appreciate that, I will definitely keep you all posted on my progress, I feel at the moment I'm going backwards but I know this is very common, I was walking getting out 2 weeks ago and now I just haven't got no energy at all to do it, which is frustrating never mind I'm not going to beat myself up just take each day as it comes.

  • Feel for you.

My hubby hasn't had the energy to get out either.

Here's hoping you get some strength soon. Yes def one day at a time.

    Hope your throat is better.
We got out nebuliser from Argos. £50 Docs at hospital gave prescription for saline. Great if the hospital loan out.

  • Hi,

could I ask what your symptoms were please?

  • Hi Bushy and Chrissy. My partner's at a similar stage of recovery. He's also struggling with feeling like it's 2 steps forward, 10 steps back! Recovery is definitely not linear and straightforward. He was back in hospital for 5 hours yesterday having various scans and tests to diagnose new nasty side effects of his immunotherapy, to add insult to injury! MRI scan this Friday with checkup next week. Keep on shuffling forward everyone! X

  • Hi again Angie. Sending you lots of strength and positive vibes. I'm so sorry you're in the really tough stages right now, but you'll get out the other side sooner than you realise. We're all here for you if you need anything or just to rant about it all! X

  • Hi

my own personal symtomps was a lump on neck, however, thats very general and not every symptom or lump etc is bad news.  Majority of time similar symtoms are harmless and i always urge people not to google as so much mis information out there and also out of date.

as always symtoms for most things that linger should be seen by a qualified gp to give out appropriate advice. We are not qualified on here and if your experiencing any difficulties or worried, always see your gp.

hope this helps and i woulnt want any impression that all symtoms described on thread would apply to everyone with same.

    kind regards
