my husband finished treatment for anal cancer at the end of July. He had chemo and radiotherapy together to try and avoid surgery.
We have a follow up scan coming up and then out of the blue yesterday we were told he has to have surgery under general to ‘have a look and take biopsies’. This was never in the treatment plan and am concerned about the general as my hubs has pre existing conditions which makes it more risky. I don’t understand why they can’t do a colonoscopy under sedation like they did to diagnose. They took biopsies then and tattooed it!! No one seems to know anything and getting hold of the consultant surgeon or his PA is like trying to pin down air.
Has anyone else had biopsies following chemo under general?
Thank you! X
