Pleural Draining/Effusion

Hi - just wanted to pass on our experience with lung drainage for secondary cancer in peritoneum -we are being treated at two local hospitals and one does this particularly well.  The doctor draws down the fluid in a simple outpatient appointment taking (in our case) about 20 - 30 mins - the doctor takes the tube out and it is done.  The other admits my husband onto a ward - the procedure is different and involves a wire being inserted near the lung - which can hurt - they then take him back to the ward and the drain continues to work - this (apparently) can go on for a couple of days (we didn't stay) - it seems much more complicated and stressful and in our case achieves the same result.  I'm not making clinical judgements here as completely unqualified to do so but worth knowing if you are going through this that the simpler procedure is worth asking about.
