Hi there, my husband had lung cancer and he had robotic keyhole surgery at Guys hospital on 7th June this year.  Whilst doing the surgery they took 10 lymph nodes and did a biopsy on them.   The main cancer was all cut out with a big margin and he now has only half a lung on the right hand side. The left hand side was okay. When we went to see the surgeon 4 weeks after the operation we were told that cancer was found in one of the lymph nodes. It could just be left and we could just get on with our lives but we could have chemotherapy as a precaution and give him another 5%.  We have decided to give the chemo a go and should have started it on 28th August, unfortunately he got an infection and until that has cleared up he cannot start.

Sorry to hear about your fathers lung cancer. I had lung cancer back in 2013 in my right lung and had surgery to remove two lobes from the right lung  . I also had follow up chemotherapy and I have to say I have recovered and lead a full life . I was due to be signed off as clear of cancer this November but have recently been diagnosed with a tumuor now in my left lung . I am due to see my surgeon and consultant next week to see what can be done. Up until last week my previous surgery had not impacted on my life at all , I still went on holiday, went to the gym daily etc . I suppose what im trying to say is yes removal of a lung or part of a lung is a massive surgical experience and does take time to recover , but be positive and things dont need to change drastically you can live ok with only 1 lung .

Yes - luckily my dad is a very positive person and I hear this can be a big advantage in any kind of recovery. All the best with your appointment next week, I really hope it is soemthing they can dal with swiftly. Thanks
