Radiotherapy damage to mouth

7 weeks ago I finished 6 weks of radiotherapy on my face and mouth. How long will it be before I can eeat norml food instead of pureed food.. O I have no saliva to help with swallowing or chewing.

I had a large tumur in my left sinuses and eye socket.

  • Hiya..

I can only imagine what your going through as I see my husband going through it too and it’s very frustrating for him..

My husband finished radiotherapy 10 weeks ago but had a nasel feeding tube up until 3 weeks ago when he removed it himself...He has stage IV throat cancer and also had chemo and six weeks of radiotherapy..(he gets results on the 12/9/18) He has lived on fortisip shakes for months for his calories etc but has started to eat more solid food in the last few weeks but only small amounts..last night he had sausage casserole but chewed it more than normal and always washes it down with water after each mouthful..he also eats things like trifle..rice puddings..porridge but always with a glass of water..for his dry mouth he uses a dry mouth spray which he purchased from the chemist (oralieve) and from the Doctor he has Difflam spray which he finds really helps..he used to get up through the night quite a few times to use it but now he only needs a couple of times a day.

i really couldn’t say how long the symptoms last as everyone is different. But I thought I would share our story...I’ve read so many blogs on google about this and people have different stories..but I do find other people’s blogs helpful...(or I’m just nosy lol)
