  • Hello Lin66,

A warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear you are having panic attacks. Sometimes just the wait to get a date can make you very anxious and I hope you find out soon when the operation takes place so that you can mentally prepare yourself.

I hope you don't mind but I have slightly edited your title to 'awaiting op to have left lower lobe removed' - this will help our members to see just from looking at your title what your post is about. Hopefully you will then hear from someone who has also had a lobectomy or who from those have supported a loved one who previously had this operation and I hope they will have some useful advice for you.

Our nurses may also be able to answer any questions you may have before your operation. It might also help you and reassure you to talk to someone who knows exactly what kind of surgery you are going to have and who have the knowledge to answer specific questions on it. If you live in the UK, you can ring them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Best of luck for the operation. We are here for you every step of the way so don't hesitate to come back here at any time including during the recovery period.

  • My husband had keyhole robotic surgery.  He was supposed to have the lower right lobe removed but to get a good margin they removed more.  He was in hospital for 6 days because he had heart problems during surgery.  Most people are only in for 4 days. After the operation he was in a small amount of pain and discomfort but on the whole we were pleasantly surprised.  He was never very active but we do have a walk every day since he's been home. Unfortunately one of the wounds did get infected after 5 weeks but hopefully that will be healed so that he can start his chemo soon. I wish you all the best on your journey and if you have any questions I will be glad to help.

  • Hi Homebird,

Thank you for your reply it was so to hear from you,  I have had my op now and like you said I was home from hospital in 4 days, but, to be honest the pain is still at times quite bad, I think it’s because I can not do the exercises you can as I am wheelchair bound but still doing the breathing and the best exercises I can.

I also hope to start my chemo soon, I wish you best wishes Lin66

  • Hi Lucie thanks for helping me I was so uptight at the time of posting and really worried but things with the op went fine I am still awaiting results I know I have to have chemo but that’s all I know as my appointment is not until the 10/10th thank you lucie Lin66

  • I am glad the operation went well Lin66 and I hope you recover well from it.

I hope everything goes well when it comes to your appointment and that you get plenty of rest in the meantime. Fingers crossed for your results!

  • Hi Lin66, glad the operation went well.  My husband said that you will get the pain for a while but it will gradually ease off.  5 weeks after his operation one of the wounds where the robots arm went in opened  up and was infected.  This has taken ages to heal and chemo should have started on 28th August.  It looks like it will be at least another week or more so that has been quite stressful.  However we are very hopeful that we will get there in the end.

Best wishes to you and hope the pain eases for you.
