Hello Amber and thank you for your post.
I am sorry to hear about your numb hands. The medical term for this is peripheral neuropathy. This can sometimes be caused by some types of cancer treatment. In many cases it gets better once treatment is stopped and goes away eventually. Keeping your hands warm and doing gentle exercises might help. Some people find squeezing a soft spongy type ball helps. A type of medication that is used routinely to treat epilepsy (this treatment works on nerves) might help some people with peripheral neuropathy. Do ask your nursing and medical team about this.
We do have information about periperal neuropathy and what might help on our website, click here
You would be welcome to get back to us and talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
I hope your hands begin to feel better soon.
Take care
Caroline
Hi Amber, I'm on my 2nd chemo treatment for NMZL lymphoma, my fingers started going numb a few weeks ago, I mention it to the nurses and they told me if it gets worse, they will get the doctor to reduce one of the drugs as it can be permanent. I'm getting R-CVP, I can't remember which one they will reduce a little but it's worth mentioning to them before your next treatment. Wishing you all the best. Keep well
