Totally confused!

hello my name is sue and I'm 70 yrs young.  Following bowel screening earlier this year I was found to have adenocarcinoma of the bowel and had a subsequent right hemicolectomy in May via laporoscopy.  I was diagnosed as stage 3 as small blood vessel was involved plus lymphatics outside the bowel wall.

I recovered well from surgery home on day 3 and now lead a full and active life as I did prior to surgery (no symptoms)  a test was performed on my tumour as it was 'poorly differentiated' so they not sure if it was the primary.  Scans show my liver lungs and following endoscopy stomach all clear and also lymph nodes clear.

The confusing thing is my tumour 'test' shows that chemo unsuitable for me and I have been referred to the genetic unit! According to letter my MMR1HC is deficient.  Tried googling it but genetics so complicated.  My surgeon supposedly has been trying to ring me but strangely my phone hasn't any missed calls and landline answerphone is empty.  Apparently I will get appt at some time in a nurse led clinic to explain things.  Chemo is always mentioned in literature for stage 3 cancer so my children are obviously concerned as to why I'm not offered it?  Could it be my age?  Hope someone out there can give me some answers.  Thank you for reading.

  • Hi there ...

I had a grade 3 breast cancer .. it was sent away to the U S A for testing .. come back low risk of spread and lymph nodes were clear .. so my surgeon said I didn't need chemo ...  was yours a "grade" or "stage"  they are different ...

But if I were you, I'd give McMillan free phone a ring tomoz ... they help answer any questions they can .. and really listen .. I've used them a couple of times when I was confused or feeling scared .. it really helped me ... and they know a lot more then us, as wer just average people with or caring for someone with cancer ... chrissie x
