Doctor called so worried .

My mother had partial mastectomy and few lump nodes were removed, lump node found clear so she was about to start her rediation therapy. We had a follow up appointment with my mother’s oncologist ( unfortunately he was vacation so we had to see another  onchologist)  due to my mother’s body pain this onchologist refered my mom for  bone scan (pet scan ) so we got the date for next appointment on 31 of July so that the onchologist can consult about scan results. but the scan date we got  on August 2 so I had to cancel the application for 31 July , suddenly my mother’s onchologist called  us yesterday and asked to come to see him. We are at hospital now and i am super worried . Thinking maybe he didn’t see mom after the surgery that’s why he called or could be something elsc . I am so exhausted and can’t  take any bad news Anymore , don’t know why he called suddenly:(

  • Dear Alien,  these phone calls out of the blue worry us all.  Hopefully you have some insight by the end of the day.  I'm caring for my husband who has lung cancer, diagnosed 18 months ago.  The only advice I would offer is to take each day as it comes,  worrying is draining and doesn't help anyone.   Each day is different,  so help Mum as much as you can but don't run yourself into the ground,  she will blame herself if you do.  There are people to help you, take all offers of help given and let us know what happened.   Carol

  • Dear Carol , thank you so much for your kind message .you don’t know how many times I was reading your message :).  My mom’s oncologist has been always kind with us , It was so nice of him that he called us to see him at the hospital .he wanted to    Talk about the treatment plan , I was panicked but he told me nothing to worry your mom is cancer free , just  she just needs  radiation. He knew my mother doesn’t have insurance coverage so he told us thinking about our financial situation and all he thinks best would be radiation no chemo . I felt relief but again a bit worried about pet ct scan although doctor told us he is not worried about that test as mom’s ct scan report was very good . So tomorrow I am taking my mom for pet scan . I hope to get a good news about it too . Keep us in your prayer please. I wish your husbands speedy recovery .

  • I'm so pleased that the outlook is not as bleak as you first thought. . This is why taking it a day at a time is the best option.   Trying to second guess the future or going on Google, when every case is different,  is draining .  For example my husband has incurable cancer, I lookedup  the percentage of deaths relevant to stage 4 lung cancer, one year from diagnosis is the norm.  But he's still here 18 months later, so statistics can be beaten.  I will keep you all in my prayers, people have prayed for us and it seems to be working.  Best wishes.   Carol

  • Hello carol , today my mother had a follow up meeting with the doctor. Also he talked about the test result of pet ct scan that everything is normal , bones are ok but only they found some thyroid nodules , so he wana check it through an ultrasound, I wasn’t ready to take another shock , when he told me you can do it later I was like kinda relief , Also met the radiation oncologist, he gave my mom 20 treatments , which will start next month hopefully, after couple of month I feel like things setting well , everyday was a nightmare for me , thinking that mom will be cured finally gives me peace of mind unless there is anything new adds on . I hope you are doing well , take care . Alien

  • Hi Alien, so pleased you have a plan now for Mum.  Just concentrate on each day and enjoy the good ones.  Hubby sailed through radiotherapy but a few problems later.  Get in touch if you need help.  Warmest wishes Carol
