Stage 4 Breast cancer.

Hi

I’m not sure what sort of answers I’m looking for right now. Beginning of the year, my mum was diagnosed with secondary stage 4 breast cancer which has spread to her bones which has lead to spinal compression and has affected her ability to walk. (She is also HER2 positive)  This is her second time having breast cancer so she’s been through chemo before. Because the first time round, she has really intense and long chemo treatment, it made her bones very very brittle. This lead to her breaking her left hip and needing a hip replacement. Operation went all okay and she recovered really well. It’s after the op her problems have occurred.. she has been in and out of hospital for months with blood clots, hip pain and internal bleeding  and it has now got to the point where she is completely bed ridden and lost the ability to walk completely. She also contracted sepsis at one point and nearly lost her because of this. Due to the severe complications, she hasn’t even started chemo. She’s had one herceptin injection through out this ordeal but hasn’t been able to have anymore since. Myself and family are in limbo. We don’t know if and when she’s going to start treatment as she needs to be able to walk to start treatment because of the side effects that come with chemo. The hospital she was at had put her in severe depression because they wasn’t doing anything to help her move things forward or giving us or her any answers. (Which I have filed a complaint over). Because of this, with the help from the right people, we’ve managed to get her a hospital bed at home and got her comfortable at home. She has carers visiting her 4 times a day, counselling once a week, and the district nurses on call 24/7. Mum is also on a indefinite DNR order, as she has quite her heart rate has been quite high. She had an MRI scan before the hospital discharged her and her report stated that there’s “possible mestasis in the brain”

i understand everyone situation is different, but I was just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar, or can give me some clue on what to expect?  She can’t get to any doctors appointments; although a community physio has been assigned to her to try and get her on a commode or a wheelchair at the very least so she can attend crucial appointments.

i guess what I’m looking for is some reassurance although apart of me knows there’s probably not much that can be done and probably never will be. I just want to know if there is a silver lining to all of this.

thank you
