Anni

is there anyone else who has had nasopharyngeal carcinoma many years ago or any other head & neck cancer that is now cured but are deteriorating badly from latent effects of chemo and radiotherapy. I have been free of cancer for 19 years for which I am very grateful but gradual deterioration of tissues is occurring. I am deaf, cannot speak properly, have a tracheostomy and cannot eat or drink. I also have a weak neck causing forward head drop and lately a fistula has developed from behind my nose, passing through crumbling bones and out of the skin in two places just below my ear. I have been told nothing can be done about it so I will have this for the rest of my life. Anyone had a similar experience or can offer some advice?

  • Hi Anni and welcome to Cancer Chat.

It's great to see you've been cancer free for 19 years although I'm sorry to read about the gradulal deterioration of tissues and other effects that have occured as time has gone on. I have had a quick look through the forum and have found a few members - [@Angsal]‍, [@Carolyn68]‍, [@Cole]‍ and [@Smokie1756]‍ who have had experience of nasopharyngeal cancer (some caring for others and others being diagnosed themselves) that you may like to chat to and fingers crossed they will pop by when they can to have a chat.

You can also ask our cancer nurses about this by making a post in their section of the forum just here.

    Kind regards,
