Tamoxifen and joint pain

I googled side effects of Tamoxifen today as been having terrible stiffness/aches all over, queasiness, kind of like bad flu symptoms. I've only been on Tamoxifen for 2 weeks after having surgery on 16 May to remove a lump and 2 lymph nodes (which were clear). I'm amazed reading that so many people are complaining of the same symptoms. Shoulders and neck pain like Sarfan, feeling tearful like Chriss. Mood swings. Just generally feeling awful. I'm seeing my oncologist on Tuesday so have noted down questions to ask her as I'll probably forget when I get in there!

I was prescribed Tamoxifen rather than Letrozole because I take Alendronic Acid once a week for osteoporosis. I must say though that the osteoporosis is manageable and I've been able to get on with things, going long walks etc. After a 45 minute walk in the park the other day I was stuffed!

I'm glad I found this forum by accident!

  • Hi there ...

I think for arthritis,  tamoxifen is the lesser of two evils ... you've heard what I said about the emotional side ... but that stopped after couple of weeks ... and like you my bones are very weak with lots of problems... don't think they are more painfull ... and I think it's all settled down, except I do get tired and need a whole day in bed every week ... then l space stuff out so it's manageable ...

And yes this is a great place, coz no matter how good others are, they don't know how this journey effects us ... on here wer all on the same mad rollercoaster. . But there's always someone who can relate to what your going through ... so good idea... write down any questions... and right down the answers as you get home and those answers are lost .. if you don't understand anything tell them to explain in a way we can understand ... remember they deal with it every day ... for us it's all new and scary ..

Hope it goes well ... any questions just ask ... here most days ... Chrissie x

  • Thanks Chrissie! As you say people around you try to be helpful but it's still all new and scary to deal with this. I'll see what the oncologist has to say on Tuesday when I see her
