3 weeks to live.

My sister-in-law was given 2 to 4 weeks to live. that was 11 days ago and she is in a hospice. on Thursday she was vommiting all day and it was black. The doctors thought that the time had come as did we. The next day she was sat up in a chair, talking, eating and laughing. Since then she has walked short distances, with the aid of a frame. She said she fells great and to be honest she does not look like she is dying. Could the doctors be wrong? We had 2 different doctors who gave us the same diagnosis. She has stage 4 pancreatic cancer that has spread to her liver, lungs and spleen. It had spead to these areas when she was diagnosed 13 months ago. They have stopped treating her for her cancer as they said they have run out of ways of treating her and are just treating the symptoms i.e.pain.

  • Sadly, they are probably right and it is very hard to come to terms. Try and be strong and focus on the time that she has been given by the Doctors. Make it a good time with plenty of photographs of her looking good. The Doctors sound like they are doing everything that that they have available to make her time as pain free as possible. In the meantime cherish the moments when she is sat up and laughing and i am sure that this will help you and her too.
