Successful chemo

A very dear friend has successfully undergone chemo which doctors are astounded to find has completely eradicated a stomach tumor. Now faced with quandry of whether or not to undergo surgery to make sure or hope that's the end of it.

Weighing up a belt & braces approach versus risks of surgery and impact on life afterwards. Anyone else been in a simialr position? Cancer is so cruel in forcing such big decisions.

I want to say "have the op to make sure months of torment and treatment are not wasted" but it's yet another thing for my friend to worry about.

I deliberately have been vague to protect identity but would love to be able to help in reaching a decision.

Any advice and positive words of assurance, warmly received and passed on anonymously.

Thanks, love and best wishes.

  • Hi Fraser, I guess it depends on how your friend feels about risk. There’s always a small risk in any surgery, but there’s also a risk that there are microscopic cancer cells still there. I would ask my surgeon the question “what would you do in my position?” Best wishes Dave
