Throat cancer

My father was diagnosed with throat cancer two years ago and is now recovering although he is still having trouble with his throat.

He has not been able to eat for almost a year and a half now and has just been living on forticreme (pharmaceutical yogurt) and lots of tea with lots of sugar which isnt the best as he also has diabetes. The doctors say that they will not be prescribing him none of these yogurts to him soon but they contain 300 calories which is where he is getting his energy from. He says that things taste disgusting when I puree them. I was just wondering if anybody has been in the same position and has any suggestions? Or any advice?

  • Hi Imogen4, I'm currently in the exact same position. My father has throat cancer currently and has had it 2 times before. once last year and once when I was only 2 (turning 18 in two weeks :)). He is starting his chemo therapy tomorrow morning. But he has always been at risk of diabetes. From research we noticed the yoghurt yes is extremely calorific. The eating is hard I completely understand. Have you guys tried making lots of different kinds of pureed soup or veg? My dad had one extremely invasive operation this time last year and even now he still says the first bite is always the worse. Always here if you would just like a chat, I very much would like one too if it helps. I'll ask my mum in the morning what foods she gave dad specificically as he was recovering because she still managed to cook some stuff. Donya x
