Docetaxel

I’ve just had my 1st round of Docetaxel after having 4 rounds of FEC and I am totally wiped! No energy at all and I have a 5 year old and a 4 month old baby to look after!  My Onc told me he was giving me quite a strong does to see how well I handle it as I had a strong dose of the FEC and was ok! Any advise? Would it be worth lowering the dose

  • HI also had docetaxel i had 3 rounds of it . althoughit didnt make as sick as FEC did it gave me awful pains in my legs the oncology gave me morphine but it made no difference . i think my dose was 200ml but they lowerd it to 180ml but it made no difference . there was 2 other girls on docetaxel at the same time as me and they both said they had no pains at all so maybe i was just unlucky . i also was wiped out but that could also be due to the pains . I hope you feel better soon

  • I’m nearly a week in since my first dose and my legs and feet are driving me mad, they are keeping me awake from throbbing! Did you find anything to relieve the pain? I’ve tried paracetamol and raising them etc but nothing is working xx

  • Hi Casaicp6 . sorry to hear about your legs and feet , been in pain is awful its bad enough coping with chemo without this aswell .  To be honest i didnt find anything to help the oncology team gave me morphine it was 10ml strenght and it didnt make much difference , i think thats the strongest they can let you take home any stronger and you have to stay in hospital .. They told me to tske paracetomal and ibuprofen aswell . I think i just had a bad time with it because other people who was on it the sametime as me seemed ok . ask oncology about the morphine it might help you get some sleep and easy the pain its worth a try .  The breast care nurse said docetaxel is the one with the harsh side effects but not everybody gets them . Take care and i wish you the best of luck with your journey . x
