Dad has Myeloma and feels depressed

Hello all,

I have found myself on this forum because my Dad has suffered with Myeloma for 16 years now and has had multiple rounds of treatment over this time but he has just found out that he will need another phase of treatment after Christmas. He has felt low for a few weeks now as the hospital kept cancelling his appointments which made him anxious because he knew he would be needing treatment again soon but he couldn't get an appointment to discuss it with the doctor. After raising his concerns he has now been to the hospital and seen his consultant and his treatment is being arranged. However, he is feeling really low and depressed at the moment and the smallest of things are bothering him. I just wondered if anyone who has had similar feelings had any advice for my Dad about staying positive.

Thanks in advance!

Amy

  • I've got myeloma, as well as COPD and have a colostomy and mucus fistula because of radiaion damage.

I've suffered chronic pain for over 30 years, probably nearer 40.

I was prescribed duloxetine for the chronic pain ages ago. It's an anti-depressant, so it has a psychological effect as well.

The result is that I'm unable to hold a negative thought for more than 2 or 3 seconds. For me, it's a wonder drug. Been on them for years now and I'm quite happy to take them for life.

If your dad's in any pain you'd be best advised to get a handle on that as being pain free has a marvellous psychological effect.

    Best Regards
