How long?

Can anyone give a rough prognosis for prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 9, no metastises but pelvic lymph node involvement please?

Does anybody have any encouraging news or stories for this please? The doctor says they aim to cure it but I am not sure as it is very aggresive.

I am very worried that it will just take over and spread quickly. I have a cousin who is in the final stages of bile duct cancer and she has deteriorated so fast. My uncle has the same cancer. Very very worryied.

  • Hi there shandy ...  bless ya, it is always more worrying when there's loved ones who have had cancer ... it makes you fear the worst .. unfortunately we are not trained and couldn't say ... only the professionals can help you with that info ... I have known a few people who have had prostate cancer, and as far as I know are still with us ... you can get more info too on the help line on here and McMillan have one to were you can talk to them about all your worries .. I used it myself when I was worried about my cancer , they are so good, and they eased my mind from racing away with me ...

But I can send you a big virtual hug ... wer always here for support whatever your feeling ... Chrissie xx

  • Thank you Chrissie. We are going to hospital tomorrow for another session of chemo and i will try to find someone there to talk to.

Big hug to you too, xx

  • Hi

As chrissie has said no one can tell you how long people will live for, even doctors can only surmise until it gets near the end then they have a more realistic idea.

I am a Gleason 9 and fighting as much as possible excercises food what I drink it all helps keep this thing at bay. Hope he's managing the treatment it can be a devil for some people, I had my treatment over Christmas not the best time.

    take care

  • Hi joe,

Thanks for your reply. I am so sorry to hear that you too are fighting this wretched disease. Fortunately he is coping with the chemo, and the anti-sickness drugs have stopped any nausea. He loses his taste from about day 4 until about a week before he goes back for another session, and has had sores in his nose, but apart from that he has felt ok. He wears the cold cap so hair loss has been much less than it could have been, at least his head hair has. He seems fine and TBH if it wasn't for the initial cause of his visit to his GP (nightly peeing with a bit of difficulty) he would not know he had cancer. The hormone injections seem to have stopped him getting up in the night. The anxiety does keep him awake though. I think he would rather not know his prognosis and he doesn't look things up like i do which is probably a good thing. He did have a high PSA reading about 10 years ago and a biopsy showed nothing but in hindsight we think it may have been starting then, in which case he may be doing well to have got this far.

All the best to you and i hope you are winning the battle.

  • Hi Shandy

If he has trouble with hot sweats ask the nurses about Provera it keeps the seats down,

Cannot blame him for not looking on web sites,a lot of the wives write on here instead of the men, to find out as much as possible.I search everywhere forums chats blogs, anything new it goes in my book, what might work for one person might not for another but always worth a look.

Always keep checking his Tempreture it's very important above 38 or below 36 get to hospital, I had a temp of 38.4 and was hospitalised for three days with neutrippenna low red cells and a slight virus that happened after my third session so just be aware.

Hope he continues to do well

    Joe
