Im 44 and looking at having the LD flap reconstruction after getting infection after infection when I had immediate reconstruction and having the implant removed. I am really active with running, cycling and the gym. I was a swimmer but don't feel comfortable going anymore. I would really like to know if having the surgery has stopped you from being able to do anything?

i had my mastectomy/Ld flap April 2019 and even today im afraid im struggling badly with all kinds of movement , i cant do garden as cant bend without pain in my back, stretching/twisting is also problematic.

i was advised by surgeons that if i were highly active beforehand that prob not the best option.

Best advice is do your research, gain as much info as you can.

Thank you for your reply I'm so sorry you are in so much pain.  This s what I am really worried about unfortunately this is my only option. I'm seeing my surgeon in 2 weeks so I'll have a chat with her again.

Your very welcome, part of my problem was  i got couple of bad infections so couldnt move as much as needed to so my scar on back  has stuck to my chest wall

ive been referred back to reconstruction clinic to see if anything can be done.

i did physio and my exercises at home .

The thing that slightly started to help was swimming, however then Covid 19 arrived and that put pay to that.

when mine was done and even now the hospital photographer takes reg photos of my progress that apparently live on a cancer database so future patients can look at images and progress of 

i wont say and easy surgery and not without pain and few probs but everyone different.

Hi sarah14, i recently joined... hope you are doing ok, and wondered if you have had your latissimus surgery. I am considering this as my options are limited however after reading the women that are having real problems with movement is a massive concern to me....

im doing ok thanks, but im sorry your on thos position.

can i ask your approx age and activity level as i was 58 when had mine.

Drs do asvise you may have trouble with raquet sports or competitive swimkng etc.
