Breast cancer treatment

Hello, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August and had a double mastectomy in September. I am just waiting for chemo now although there is a 25% chance I won't have to have it because I'm taking part in a study. I look forward to meeting others in a similar boat.

    Hi Cutenewt,

I see that this is your first post on our forum, so a very warm welcome to Cancer Chat.

I am sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. Can you tell us a little more about your cancer – type, staging, planned treatment, have you bothered with reconstruction and what is your age? My mum had breast cancer and died with secondaries 20 years ago.  I was diagnosed with mucinous breast cancer 7 years ago and had a lumpectomy followed by Tamoxifen. A year later I developed another primary in the same breast and had a double mastectomy followed by Letrozole. Unfortunately, because of previous surgery, I was not a suitable candidate for reconstruction, but I cope fine with my falsies.

How did you find your mastectomy and have you completely recovered now? Everything happens so quickly, that it is hard to take it all in at the time. I find a huge difference in the quality of treatment I have received as opposed to what was done for mum. Treatment has come on leaps and bounds since then and people are now living with cancer, rather than dying with it.

What does your trial involve that is different from the usual?

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you, whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
