Finally arrived. My first chemo session

Found out 5 weeks ago I have breast cancer. It’s been caught early and it’s treatable and curable. I start 4 sessions of chemo today after the 4th I will have a mri and a biopsy. If cancer is still there will have another 4 sessions of chemo then surgery to remove the lump.

Still trying to accept it doesn’t feel real... Not slept much even tough I’ve took my sleeping tablets. Going to be a long day...

  • After being awake from half 2 yesterday. I got to the hospital at 10. My meds wasn’t on the unit so had to wait. Half 11 they were ready to be told I needed an anti sickness tablet then wait for an hour for treatment. Not happy by this point.

1pm finally got my chemo started , no problem apart from a headache having it.

Cant believe the amount of tablets I’ve got to take...

Come home at 3 pm had dinner went to bed for an hour. Been sleeping on and off since. Never felted so drained. Still got my headache even after taking paracetamol. Hoping it’s because I’m so tired. Will ring 24hr number if it doesn’t go..

It wasn’t as bad as I thought...

  • That's encouraging to hear .I'm waiting for appointment for line be put in .how long did you wait did you have line in

  • Hi,

Hopefully they'll be better organised for your next one - I too was surprised about how many non-chemo tablets I needed to take to help reduce the side effects.

The headaches may be down to being slightly dehydrated because of all the pills - just a thought.

    Good luck!
    Dave

  • I had a cannula put in just before treatment.

The headaches are a side effect of meds. Spoke to a nurse, she said if no better got to ring up..

Been given 3 lots of anti sickness drugs, steroids, antibiotics and from Tues got to have injections to build white cells up...Not looking forward to that....
