Odonnell

Hi I am 53 year mother of 3 boys well there not boys now there adults lol. I have finished my treatment for aggressive non hodgkin lymphoma in April Which lasted 8 months I have come along way since diagnosis but I find my recovery has come to a stand still and get bouts of fatigue which is getting depressing. How long will this last and has anyone any tips that will get me through this bad patch.

  • Hi there ... Glad your long treatment has come to an end ... That's one hurdle over ...

After so many months of treatment , I would think your body will take some time to heal and get back to how you used to be ... When I felt like that , I went to "pain management " course .. they taught us to spread out tasks like washing \ ironing \ shopping and housework etc ... so we did a little something ... Rest for a while and only short manageable things in short bursts ... And not to feel guilty if something's weren't done ... And in letting your body rest , you will give it time to repair .. and slowly you will manage to do a little more but it does take TIME ...

SO BE KIND TO YOURSELF ... and give your self a pat on the back for coming so far ... So sending you, brave lady a big hug ... Chrissie xx

  • Hi,

A lot of people find they go through this period of anti-climax, fatigue and depression once their treatment is over. It is often associated with an unspoken fear of the cancer returning and having to go through the experience again.

I found that a change of scenery helped. I went on holiday in India when I finished chemo which helped with the physical fatigue and side-effects. It also helped psychologically as I was in a new environment with no reminders of my cancer journey and was mixing with people who had no idea of what I'd been through and we talked instead about normal holiday things.

Don't try to rush things, it will take time to get back to anything near to normal ;-)

    Best wishes

    Dave
