Breast lumpectomy and node removal op

hi to anyone due to have this op

i had mine yesterday. Got there for 7:30 am. Changed into gown, dressing gown nd slippers. Had bp nd temp done met consultant, anaesthetist. Had breast marked up then radioactive injection (to help them find nodes during op- negates the need for the blue dye).

Then the wait to go. There were 4 of us for the same op so we pulled up chairs nd sat and chatted.

I went for op at 1:30. Woke up in resus then taken back to room (no bed in room just a chair)5:00pm. Bp and temp. Cup of tea nd toast. Approx hr later told could go home.

I have no pain ( I am taking 2 paracetamol 4hrly). I slept well last night. I can move arm freely etc and had no problems getting dressed or moving around.

I am waiting now for the district nurse coming to check me over. At the moment there is no bruising and very little swelling.

All the staff were brilliant I can not fault them.

If you too are to have this op I can honestly say it was no where near as bad as I had built it up in my mind. As always it is the waiting that is the worst.

Good luck to those due to have this and try not to worry

Take. Care

  • Have a nice day with your daughter, put a rubbish film on and veg out maybe?! Oh, and rest, your busy person, you!

  • Hi ladies hope you're doing ok? Rileyroo still feeling ok? Had your session today? How's the wound Sandra? Hope you're both well.
  • Doing OK. A bit tired but hey ho. Traffic isn't much better in the morning to be honest. It's definitely busier in rt in the morning, one woman turned up very late and expected to be taken through. She was told she would have to wait for a gap. Her excuse was that she had needed to toilet! There was a lot of eye rolling both from the staff and people waiting to go for treatment! Eesh! How are you getting on, feeling any better?
  • I'm afraid being tired is going to be par for course now. Wow that lady should've contacted them at least. I was in the trains so tried to avoid rush hour but there's always traffic - both cars and people.

I wear lenses all the time and I now have to wear reading glasses on top of them when reading or texting so at least there'll be less typos!

Has your appetite been effected at all? Make sure you rest. Talking from experience of course! Lol!

Am better but still a bit tired. Going to exercise class ti see if that'll help. Went for scan and dr doing scan said all looked normal so that was great. Think have had more hospital appts than hot dinners this year! Horrid thing is whenever I go it brings all the emotions back of the whole ordeal. Nevermind at least its one of the best ones. Take it easy.

  • Was kind of expecting tiredness but was hoping for a bit longer before it kicked in!

Appetite is OK, not wanting lots of food but wanting to eat more often so trying to have things like fruit or water. Had cakes today for some one's birthday, wasn't that bothered but it was bought for me before I got to work.

I wear bi focal specs, couldn't handle varifocals. I'm fine with distance but hopeless close up.

Scan was good news, one plus at least. Know what you mean about bringing it all back, saw my original consultant in the near distance today, hands went clammy and I started to feel panicky but I guess the whole cancer experience is going to take a long time before it takes a back seat in our lives.

  • You're very brave working while having treatment. I think for the dirst time in my life I actually took the time to take care of me and concentrate on only that. I find veggie and fruit combined smoothie is great ehen dont wanna eat. Jus make sure you put beetroot, spinach, turmeric root in it with whatever else you want. It is an awful feeling when it all comes back. But gotta keep going. Hope the cake was yummy!
  • Cake was OK, wouldn't have chosen the one I got but it was a nice thought from my work colleague. Not feeling particularly sick, on tablets anyway to sort my stomach out so I can take anti inflamatories for a problem I have with my ankle. Need physio but that will have to wait until I've done with rads. One thing at a time.
