Breast lumpectomy and node removal op

hi to anyone due to have this op

i had mine yesterday. Got there for 7:30 am. Changed into gown, dressing gown nd slippers. Had bp nd temp done met consultant, anaesthetist. Had breast marked up then radioactive injection (to help them find nodes during op- negates the need for the blue dye).

Then the wait to go. There were 4 of us for the same op so we pulled up chairs nd sat and chatted.

I went for op at 1:30. Woke up in resus then taken back to room (no bed in room just a chair)5:00pm. Bp and temp. Cup of tea nd toast. Approx hr later told could go home.

I have no pain ( I am taking 2 paracetamol 4hrly). I slept well last night. I can move arm freely etc and had no problems getting dressed or moving around.

I am waiting now for the district nurse coming to check me over. At the moment there is no bruising and very little swelling.

All the staff were brilliant I can not fault them.

If you too are to have this op I can honestly say it was no where near as bad as I had built it up in my mind. As always it is the waiting that is the worst.

Good luck to those due to have this and try not to worry

Take. Care

  • Sounds like you're doing a grand job. Let's hope you don't react at all. I shall keep my fingers crossed.x My hospital - a leading cancer hospital didn't give me any creams, etc. Guess the state of nhs however they do a grand job. Not easy with all they have to deal with. Hope you enjoy your weekend ladies. I've got a raging fever so guess the sofa will be my best friend for a couple of days. Take care.x
  • Cheers ladies

I’ll get me creams nd oil in then - lay odds on they don’t give creams at mine either

Good go with no glasses - better than I sometimes do with mine on lol

  • Good grief!  It never rains but pours in your life does it?  Be kind to yourself and rest. Have a little treat and sod the housework. The dust will still be there when you're up to shifting it.

    Take care JBains.

  • Thank you so much ladies. Bless you both.xx
  • Aveeno cream isn't half bad either! Got to rads tonight and realised I'd left my aloe in the fridge at work! Bought this stuff at the on site pharmacy, pleasantly surprised. Just another one for hour arsenal.
  • I've always seen bio oil advertised but never used it. I might do now.

Think am gonna book a massage once i feel better. At least nails are still looking fab!

Aveeno is a very good cream. Anything without parabens is good. Antiperspirant safe to use is Bionsen roll on - you can get it at Tesco. I didn't use it during treatment but after.

Rileyroo bet your skin is looking amazing!

    When's your next appt Sandra?

  • Eee lasses I’m taking screen shots t get the names of the creams nd deodorants lol.

Dont know when next appt - it’s with the oncologist but waiting on letter t say when. I rang but they said if not heard in next 2 wks t ring again.

Wondered if it’s t allow me t heal a bit more cos just 2 wks post op at min ( feels longer don’t it).

Omg I love a massage - that should def b on our t do lists lol

rest up peeps- forget the should be  doings and go with the want to and fancy doings- this should b our philosophy for life now we have earned it.

    Take care ladies x

  • My appointment with the oncologist was about 5-6 weeks post check up with the surgeon. The appointment with the surgeon was four weeks post op so that sounds as tho it's where they are going.

Talk about contrary advice, I was told I could use my normal anti perspirant!

  • Maybe appts are dependant on individual cases and availability. My appt with surgeon was 2 weeks post op, oncologist week after and then 6 week rad wherein had regular checks every week by rad nurse. Then oncologist 5 wèeks after I finished rad. Very conflicting advice indeed.
  • Morning peeps

I had my check up with the surgeon 11 days post op. I did ask how long for RT to start nd he said he has been saying 6 wks but they have just been audited and it is coming in at 8 wks - he said that needs improving.

Happy holidays then .... sigh. But hey means to an end.

You know though - I have done well post op. It’s 2 wks and Just had tenderness rather than pain, can hardly see scars( which are very discreet and healed well), no bruising and feeling generally well ( been out and about since day 2 - not cooked once been out for food lol). I’ve kicked back and relaxed too and read my way through 4 books.

Reckon I should roll with this and enjoy life till next stage gets here.

Do what you’s fancy this weekend ladies you’ve earned it.
