Breast lumpectomy and node removal op

hi to anyone due to have this op

i had mine yesterday. Got there for 7:30 am. Changed into gown, dressing gown nd slippers. Had bp nd temp done met consultant, anaesthetist. Had breast marked up then radioactive injection (to help them find nodes during op- negates the need for the blue dye).

Then the wait to go. There were 4 of us for the same op so we pulled up chairs nd sat and chatted.

I went for op at 1:30. Woke up in resus then taken back to room (no bed in room just a chair)5:00pm. Bp and temp. Cup of tea nd toast. Approx hr later told could go home.

I have no pain ( I am taking 2 paracetamol 4hrly). I slept well last night. I can move arm freely etc and had no problems getting dressed or moving around.

I am waiting now for the district nurse coming to check me over. At the moment there is no bruising and very little swelling.

All the staff were brilliant I can not fault them.

If you too are to have this op I can honestly say it was no where near as bad as I had built it up in my mind. As always it is the waiting that is the worst.

Good luck to those due to have this and try not to worry

Take. Care

  • Yep day 1 today. 5 o'clock. Joy, the traffic will be awful that time of night. Grit teeth and get through it!

  • Oh no!

i just saw this on yr other post bless.

its def time life gives u a break mind. Will b thinking of u on Monday.

i started taking the letrozole on Monday nd yesterday went out for t cinema nd for food. While out I kept rubbing my eyes coz felt a bit gritty nd like they had a fine film over them but rubbing wasn’t helping . So pulled out the leaflet on reactions nd yup blurred vision is one of them (did not bode well as had only took 1).

Today I’ve woke up nd eyes bit better  just a little gritty nd just a bit blurry on my peripheral vision - ok looking straight ahead. Hope it continues to improve. Let us know how u get on at opticians. Consultant told me to try nd push through any of the common reactions as they will start t clear up over time - my appt with him in 6 mths is to discuss any that haven’t!

how about registering on nhs and gov jobs sites- you can filter what and where u r interested in nd they will send u push notifications of anything that comes up ( saves u looking):-)

If not having a good day we r here for u - thank you for yr support you have given me while not 100% yourself- did I mention u rock:-)

    take care x

  • Oh I never thought about the traffic but sadly u r right. Because of the delay getting into my appt on Monday I left the hosp at 5 the traffic was awful. That being said everyone is leaving so hopefully u heading opposite direction will b quite - fingers crossed:-).

  • The hospital is out of the town I'll be stuck in the middle of it unfortunately.

  • I managed to get my Tamoxifen dose adjusted so Intake two smaller doses rather thqn one large one. The mood swings even bu day two were unbelievable.

  • Teeth gritting in progress!

  • Oh no - sorry to hear your vision is affected too. Been going to same optician for 24 yrs - he told me blurred vision coz am getting old. Gee thanks. That sure made my day! Will mention to consultant. I dunno about your end but I was able to request times I preferred for rad. Hopefully you'll not have too much traffic. It is overwhelming the first few so hang in there. Our thoughts are with you & sending you strength. Yep not having good couple of days. It'll pass. I dunno if my moodiness in tamoxifen or what I've been through. Sigh.... Thx - you guys rock too. That made me smile - thank you.x
  • Wasn't allowed. The first appointment they made was for tonight and all the rest have been made for the same time. Been told I can't change in advance but I can ring in the morning to see if there are any cancellations. Eesh, I live in the dark ages.

  • Perhaps if you tell them it's too difficult at this time perhaps they might change it? Guess going to central London for treatment wasn't so bad then- I was able to request times although they never ran on time. Always had at least an hour wait. But got to meet some incredible people whilst waiting as I saw the same group every day. It'll soon be over. Just make sure you rest and lots of beetroot, turmeric , ginger and black pepper - good for all (red blood cells, immunity and healing). I made a smoothie in morning before I left as was easier on days I didn't want to eat. We're there with you. You rock!xx

  • Thank you. Not heard that combination before!
