Breast lumpectomy and node removal op

hi to anyone due to have this op

i had mine yesterday. Got there for 7:30 am. Changed into gown, dressing gown nd slippers. Had bp nd temp done met consultant, anaesthetist. Had breast marked up then radioactive injection (to help them find nodes during op- negates the need for the blue dye).

Then the wait to go. There were 4 of us for the same op so we pulled up chairs nd sat and chatted.

I went for op at 1:30. Woke up in resus then taken back to room (no bed in room just a chair)5:00pm. Bp and temp. Cup of tea nd toast. Approx hr later told could go home.

I have no pain ( I am taking 2 paracetamol 4hrly). I slept well last night. I can move arm freely etc and had no problems getting dressed or moving around.

I am waiting now for the district nurse coming to check me over. At the moment there is no bruising and very little swelling.

All the staff were brilliant I can not fault them.

If you too are to have this op I can honestly say it was no where near as bad as I had built it up in my mind. As always it is the waiting that is the worst.

Good luck to those due to have this and try not to worry

Take. Care

  • I will. Just wind her up and set her off. She can talk more than me and that's not necessarily a good thing!

  • Daughters are a Godsend. Mine also came with me and its important they're involved. It helps them to cope - i think. Ombre nails sound amazing!

  • Good for her she might need to talk to help get her through too.

Your next couple of days will b all about her hols it’s brill hearing about their lives. We have done good when we know they can go out in the world confidently:-) x

  • Daughter is good with stuff like that, have to see if Bekki the nail lady can oblige. I'll try and describe them to you, not sure if we can put pics on here?

  • totally agree jbains me nd mine are very close. They both live near enough for us to spend time together. Good times x

  • Good luck for today! Couldn't get ombre done today, her delivery hadn't arrived, soooo I've booked it in for the Thursday after I finish rads, my reward!
  • Thanks I’ll update when I get back.

Worth the wait will look brill.

Well I managed t get my steristrips off. After yet another 2 showers the ends lifted. Started off standing up but u were right best done sitting down. TBH they actually came off slowly but no bother. Mind u I did go a bit clammy and lightheaded when finished so needed t lie down - it passsed quickly ( prob cos was holding my breath lol).

1 quite long scar under underarm ( but very thin) chuffed t bits with the one on my breast- I had 2 lumps about 6 cm apart- they have only done 1 incision around the edge of my areole (darker area around my nipple) so actually very difficult to see scar. Bit of yellow bruising but minimal. At the min very little difference in look but was advised at pre  op that this will prob happen but as it heals the tissue taken will b more obvious.

So hope I get good news today...then hopefully onwards and upwards.

    take care x

  • Sounds very similar to mine although I have a scar across the left side about half way down, it's about 2 ins long. I already had scarring from the biopsies I had so it was never going to look fantastic but it is fading a little now. Have the say the one under my Arm has healed faster and looks better. Didn't look great to begin with but flattened off really well and is fading nicely. A certain type of oil has probably helped I think! Well done you for getting the dressings off!! Got to give credit to my surgeon, my boobs (are we allowed to call them that on here?!) look pretty similar, I did ask him to see what he could do to sort that and he has! I had two areas removed the same as you and it's not obvious that anything has been removed. Whether that will change over time and post rads is anyone's guess. Start moisturising ready for rads now and hope it's great news when you have finished at the hospital today!
