The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

    Hi Sandra,

It's great to hear that all was clear after your mammogram - that fear of recurrence never really goes away. You seem to be seeing plenty of the lil' ones. We were lucky enough to see our two when we went on holiday together at the beginning of August. It's not so easy to see them with us living at different ends of the country. Still, we all had a great time.

I have made a start on that other C too, but still have a way to go.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Eee well hello you ️

Congratulations on your retirement... it's blinking brill ain't it  what you doing with your time ( when I got asked that I always replied "owt I want "

I love living alone lol....the house stays tidy ( well until lil ones come anywhose).

I've only had a nurse ring from hosp for a telephone consultation to ask how I was. Suits me to...don't want to spend time at hospitals if I don't have to.

Not selfish to say how you are doing post diagnoses.... let's those at the start of the process know others have managed to get their lives back ️.

love that you've popped on to let us know how you are getting on... hope we don't have to wait too long for next post ️

  • I'm so please to hear  you had family time Jolamine ... warms the soul doesn't it ️

I had all the family at mine yesterday to have dinner together... love family time. x

  • Hi everyone.

Lovely to hear about what's happening to you Rileyroo. And you too Sandra.

I have an appointment in November. Doc says if everything clear then I'll be discharged. Mixed feelings about that

Been a torrid time here since January. Hubby has been very poorly and in and out of hospital. End result he now has stage 5 renal failure and is on dialysis three times per week. Tough. Also he caught covid whilst in hospital. Fortunately he had no symptoms but it was hard on the covid ward. One night three people from his bay of six passed away. There was no visiting of course so no one could go in to see him to help him cope. That spell  in hospital lasted for six weeks. In about week 5 he sent me a photo of himself and I didn't recognise him.

    Things are gradually improving now.

    Take care  all

    Hi Rileyroo,

I am glad to hear that you have opted for retirement and hope that it is treating you well. It's also great to hear that that you are keeping well and that there is no sign of recurrence.

It sounds as if living alone is taking some adjusting to, butit's good to hear that you have canine company. I hope that your son is not living too far away and, that you still see him from time to time.

It's great to be able to avoid hospital visits for a change, isn't it - long may you continue to do this.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Sundial,

I am so sorry to hear about your hubby, but glad to hear that he is now out of hospital. What a terrible time for both of you when you couldn't even see one another. How is he coping with dialysis? It can be hard going.

We've had a pretty torrid time too. Hubby had a quadruple by-pass 20 odd years ago. Following that he had Pneumonia and then a stroke and had to retire at 50. He then developed Diabetes. Last year he was diagnosed with Heart Failure and at Christmas with Vascular Dementia. He had some strange episodes last year and had a mammogram in July 2020. We were told that all was clear following this.

He saw a stroke consultant in March this year and we were told that he has had several mini-strokes over the past few years and, now also has Vascular Parkinson's - I just wonder what comes next?

I hope that all goes well for you in November. Being discharged felt a bit like being set out to sea without a lifebelt to start with, but you get used to it.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

    Thanks for your reply.

I am sorry to hear about your husband. It must be hard to deal with all that. I know exactly how you feel when you say what's next. It has been a series of events with mu husband rip ...pneumonia then a stoma fitted  because his colitis meds weren't working, kidney stones and now this kidney failure. They discovered he has an very rare blood disorder which has caused the kidney problem. The blood disorder is incurable but treatable but the discovery was too late to save his kidneys. Dialysis is going ok. He's very tired on dialysis days but those in between he's able to do some things. He's still driving and was able to get a blue badge so that helps. They now have asked him if he wants to go on the transplant list. Our daughter wants to be tested to see if she is a match. I'm not sure about that...two of them in surgery at the same time. However that's a long way off as he has to have a hernia caused by his stoma repaired  and a permanent dialysis line fitted before then.

Im sure you know that all these things are completely life changing. Add to that covid19 and it has been a very tough eighteen months. I bet yours has been too.

    Take care

    Sundial

  • Oh my Sundial so sorry your hubby has been so unwell... not being able to visit must have been so hard on you all.. hope things continue to ease for you ️

I totally get where you are come from about being discharged. There feels a security in being under their care and being checked... mind you I've just had one call from a nurse in the last 2 yrs.

thank you for checking in ...it's always lovely to hear from you x

    Hi Sundial,

One thing certainly follows the other doesn't it? I can fully understand why you feel as you do when your daughter wants to be tested for suitability.

They say that life only throws at us what we can take, but I'm beginning to wonder!

  • Evening peeps... hope everyone is doing ok and hopefully looking forward to Christmas ️

just wondering what's happening with everyone's follow ups at hospital. Last yr my very late hospital follow up was cancelled and instead I had a nurse do a telephone consultation. It's worked out as 1 telephones consultation in 2 yrs. Then yesterday I got a text reminder for my appointment at the Hospital tomorrow (Monday). Great only..... I didn't know I had one as no appointment sent through the post. I assume it's actually at the hospital and not a telephone consultation like last yr. actually the same happened for my annual mammogram only at least I got the appointment letter and the reminder on the same day!   So... off to the hospital for my late again annual consultant appointment. How's everyone else's annual checks going x
