The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Hello all hope you're as well as can be expected - hard times for all in so many different ways.

Surgery done on wed - been ok until today - majorly swollen and pain so might be back into hospital to have fluid drained. Sigh....one thing after another!

Hope everyone is keeping warm in this bitter cold weather and safe. I pray your results are what we want Jolamine and glad Billy you are finally getting rest.

  • Hello, I'm not sure anyone can help me. I'm not sure how to post or how to create a chat. I've never done this before. I am waiting for my apt at the breast clinic next Tuesday as I have had a few changes in one breast. I'm terrified, and 30 years old.
mill quickly explain, started with a indent sort of puckering small circle shape. It's about 2 cm under aroela area. My breast is smaller and seems to be shrinking , I have no found a round movable smooth  hard lump pretty much behind the indent. Also seems another indent has appeared right near the first one. I have chronic pain upper abdominal also, and fibromyalgia so I have my hot water bottle without cover resting on stomach area so I have always got it resting on my breast area too. I have burnt my breast few months ago slightly and the skin has become a lot looser and I think that's due to heat. But I just don't know if all my signs are due to the heat. I have extreme anxiety and panic disorder and bad health anxiyso I'm always checking my body. So I'm hoping I have noticed these signs early because I'm always checking. First indentation was about 8 weeks ago and lump appeared 2/3 weeks ago.

all you ladies are unbelievable and so brave and sending hugs to all of you.
I would appreciate if someone can reach out. Also help me how to post on here correctly.
    thank you xx

  • Hi Natasha

I can understand how anxious you must be but one rule of thumb I've learned is not to panic unless there is something to panic about. Even though you are worried which is something all of us on here have done, it's best to keep yourself busy and put it out of your mind (I know easier said than done) until Tuesday. You are on the radar and will be checked out which is the most important thing. If they feel it's something that requires further investigation then you will be in very capable hands.
I am now on my second journey of cancer and I've learned not to stress as it makes it all worse. Cross the bridge when you come to it and one day at a time.

It may be nothing so until you know for certain, keep doing things you enjoy doing and spending time with those you hold dear. Keep smiling and take it one day at a time. Keep us posted on here and I send you a big massive virtual hug.

  • Thank you so much for you speedy reply.
my brain worked to the worst case sinario in everything I do. So I've already prepared myself and thinking it's going to be cancer, not only cancer but the worst stage. It's so hard and so frightening to wait . It would be good to hear of anyone else's experiences and similar symptoms to I have.

    xx thank you

  • Omg I didn't realise you were actually having your op. What was the actual op you had... hope not too major ️

rest up lass... keep them informed if things aren't right.

Sending the biggest gentlest hugs ️

  • Hi Natasha

So sorry you are going through this. Jbains was spot on with her advice... it's nothing until it is. I remember vividly my mind running around in circles... tail chasing to nowhere. Then I just thought... all the angst in the world won't change a thing it will be what it is. That being said we all deal with things differently so do what you need to to get you through to next Tuesday. Time will feel weird it will feel like Tuesday is taking forever to get here then suddenly feel ... it's here... already. Till then try to keep busy to help take your mind off things. Let us know how things go Tuesday ... I'll keep everything crossed for you . ️

  • Thank you so much for your reply. I know your all right. I have to just keep my mind focused. Homeschooling a 6 year old is helping with that a little ha.

    Hi Sandra,

Thanks for thinking of me. I'm still no further forward, so just need to be patient.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Jbains,

I'm delighted to hear that you have had your surgery, but sorry to hear about the pain. There's nothing to getting the area drained and, the relief is immediate, so hope that you get it done.

Many thanks for your good wishes re results. It's taking quite some time to get through them all at present and I'm still waiting on the first test results.

I hope that things continue to go well for you now.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Natasha,

A very warm welcome to our forum. Jbains and Sandra are right - our minds go into overdrive as soon as we notice a lump. Not all lumps are cancerous. In fact only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis.

The one thing that nobody has advised you to do is to avoid the internet at all costs, as this will only stress you further.

Don't forget to let us know how your appointment goes and, remember that we are always here for you.

I hope that all goes well for you and that you are one of the lucky ones.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
