The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Hi , just noticed this thread, hope you don't mind me hopping on. My mum was recently diagnosed with invasive ductual carcinoma  breast cancer after a routine mammogram. Initially she was told the cancer is slow growing but after her lumpectomy it was altered to grade 3 with high grade dcis. Good news is her lymph nodes are clear, clear margins and the cancer is ER/PR positive so that's good as it can be treated. We were surprised her grade has been altered from grade 2 to 3 after surgery. Is this common? She has a NPI score of 4.2 which apparently is high. She was just looking at radiotherapy but now it's possibly Chemo which isn't good under the current virus situation. Any advice greatly welcomed thank you

  • Hi,

I'm sorry I cant offer any advice.  But I have just started chemo for grade 3 breast cancer, I cant even remember the type of cancer.  My treatment plan was chemo x 6, operation (possibly lumpectomy),  and radiotherapy.  I had chemo treatment just before this started, 2 days before my 2nd treatment I developed a cough, this cleared up after 2 weeks,  and 2nd chemo 8 days ago.  Cancer is scary at the best of times but to have it now is doubly so.  I have been told my treatment plan may change, it is all a balancing act and they are weighing up the dangers of chemo with best outcomes if they operate.  I can only say that the team I have are excellent and I have complete confidence in them.  Chemo is a risk but unfortunately it may be one you have to take.  However, find as much information as you can so that your mum and family are confident you have the best options.  I am sure there will be plenty on here who can help you further.

    Good luck

    Christine x
