The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Hi Sandra,

The nurses asked me to check out this thread and to sort of keep a diary going.

The bad, my adolescent son has been diagnosed with testicular cancer this week and the CT showed its travelled up to his lungs which means after surgery he will need chemo. They'll put in a central line while they remove the teste with the tumour.

The good, I'm proud of him for taking the news in his stride. He looked straight back at the doctor unflinching. If he'd turned to look at me or his mum we would've both started blubbing. Took it well did little man.

We just don't know what to expect from chemotherapy.

I'll post regular updates on here. First step is the operation on Thursday.

  • Hi ashm welcome to the forum, so sorry about your son, thank you for keeping us updated on how things are going, the ladies come on any time depending what they are doing in today, hope everything goes well best wishes.

    Billy

  • Hi Lisa.

So glad you joined it been a bit quiet on string lately I've had to talk to myself some of the time, thats not a good sign I know, hopefully others will join you to talk soon. Best wishes.

    Billy

P.s I'm normally up early so if you can't sleep I'll be here., got some good thunderstorm just now,.

  • Hello all. Hope everyone is doing as well as possible in this heat! Dizzle - can't believe you'll be holding your little miracle soon. So excited for You! Must be very uncomfortable in this extreme heat but like you said it'll be all worth it. So so happy for you.xxx

I've been off this thread and trying to get my head straight after losing 2 people I loved dearly.  Am officially now off tamoxifen as well and feel better for it. Unfortunately the fatigue is still there and have been told it'll be there for life. Now having targeted physio to help live with it better. Dr's are now recognising the issue it has become for cancer survivors. I'm still not working - had to take a break after all that happened.

Looking forward to my gorjus son coming home for a visit and celebrating his 21st birthday.

Looking back at all the concerns, anxieties and fears I've had - I can honestly say now that reoccurrence doesn't even come into my head at all anymore and have come to terms with life as it is. It's been almost 2.5 yrs post treatment and accepted my life won't be same as before. It has been a struggle so those of you who feel you're ranting or being silly - you're not. So so important to talk always and this forum is a godsend.

All those going thru op, treatment or post treatment - just remember it's all worth it. You got This!

  • Hi Dizzle i hope you've got a good camera for when bump is born every one on this sting will want to see him, and probably others as well, God bless you, him and hubby of course, best wishes.

    Billy

  • Just a quick note got a letter from NHS two people are coming on Friday assessing me and Mrs general health problems, (I thought this could be interesting) be handy if we knew what was wrong with Mrs for starters, i hope they've got our medical notes or it's a waste of time, I'll let you know if it was worth wile.

    Billy :-(

  • I think worrying about every ache and pain is natural. As soon as we hear that wrod Cancer then of course everything we feel MUST be connected to it. I think our brains play tricks on us.

Good luck with your plan. x

  • I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Billy. Hopefully now you can get some sort of help and remember to not play it down. Tell them what it is like on the very worst day, don't tell them about the good days or you will get nowhere. x

  • Bad : It's so bleeding hot and i DO have lung cancer

    Good : Finally i have a plan

The good may not be that great but it's at least a start.

Hope you can all manage to keep cool, i'm struggling and it's not as hot as the rest of you peeps get.

    Take care evryone.
    PJ

  • Ah Lisa we have all felt the way you do this early on in yr diagnosis. I like many felt soooo much better once I got my treatment plan. Hope yours is as simple and straight forward as it can be. Everything crossed for you on Friday.  Will be thinking of you x

  • Eee Billy I love your outlook on things.

I hope all goes well and they do actually know what they are there for.

PJ is right don’t play things down tell it as it is on your worst day because that is what you must be prepared for x
