The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Good had quiet day just catching up with a few bits and pieces and generally relaxing.

Bad, daft old duffer down the road had knocked my wing mirror off my car following what was a very strange reversing manoevre out of his drive. Didn’t see to register that he had been seen. Son followed him to the local shops and confronted him, oh yeah, he said I should have done something about that! No words... unusually for me.

  • Evening ladies. Hope everyone is doing well. It's certainly gotten nippy.

Well, almost 18 months post treatment and I'm still not as back to normal as I thought. Definitely having more good days but fatigue gave me a bit of a bad turn which made me very ill and not myself for 2 days. Sigh......

Well keep warm ladies. Time is for those wooly jumpers, fluffy socks and boots to come out.

  • I can’t think of a good for today yet. On my way to chemo pre assessment clinic. Chemo starts tomorrow. Feels a bit like jumping off a cliff with no parachute. Anxious is an understatement.

Can I come and help you with the decorating instead Sandra?!

  • Hi Mrsfingers. I see one of your other posts regarding chemo prep. Feeling anxious is normal as it's heading into the unknown. I had the same chemo as what you're going to have and once you get the first two session under your belt you get used to what to expect and can prepare accordingly. I think I geared myself up for the worst so when I started I didn't find it as bad as I thought it would be. I was tired and fuzzy headed for the first 4 days or so and then I gradually started feeling more normal each day until of course the next cycle. The docetaxal part was worst for me as I've lost feeling in my toes and still suffer horrific insomnia and hot flushes. My hair started coming out on day 11 So pretty quick but got a nice wig in prep. Also is recommend having a thermometer handy as I was in hospital after each cycle the first 3 times with severe diarreah and the thermometer was what caught each infection early. Have easy snacks to access and lots of fluids in the fridge. Having said that everyone's experience is so different so like me I'd advise you make notes of side effects for the first cycle and what day the started, then you know that to expect each time. A good thing I can say is the whole lot of chemo passes in a blur and it will be over with just as soon as it's started.

Best of luck. Will be thinking of you tomorrow x
