The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

Sandra x ️X

  • Ok girls, done with my ct/pet scan . Now to wait impatiently for the results .  I hope they don’t find any new cancer but if they do Alyssa know I have it and I can treat it.!

My stomach is growling from all that contrast and liquid !

Have a great day everyone.  Your girls are probably asleep while I am preparing my dinner . When you’re getting up Im  most likely be going to sleep ha ha

  • Hi kernow

just wanted to give u the warmest of welcomes to the thread.

So sorry to hear about how low u r feeling. We are here for u so any time u feel alone drop by nd post. Would u like to share a little about your diagnosis and where u are in your treatment?

lots of us on here at different stages of treatment .. we will help where we can. Not all talk is about cancer... sometimes it’s about good things that happen and sometimes ridiculous moments of just shooting the breeze. That’s because life is like that nd that’s what we do live     our lives.

Sending those virtual hugs and hope u continue to join in with this lovely group of supportive people ️

  • Hi Kernow, I know  that feeling all too well as many of us here now. I was practically incarcerated in my own home for at least a week after my diagnosis I didn’t want to go out I didn’t want to talk to anybody but this thread to help me a lot the ladies here are wonderful you’re going to pull through. These are faces We all go thru and it will go away but we’re here for you anytime you need to talk . I wish I was close to give you a big hug because I know how that feels when you feel lonely and even if we have people around us we still feel lonely because nobody can feel what we feel.  But I know you’re a strong woman we are all here for you please be strong .

    Xoxo

  • Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing good and ready for the weekend . It is crazy hot here in the US.

Sandra ,  how old are your little ones?

Warriorqueen,  what do you use for RT? Creams , lotions?  I am so fair skin that I am really afraid I’m gonna burn bad .  Dr. prescribed a special cream will see

Dundial,  how are you doing ?  I’m thinking of you .

The good: Got my pet scan results today and everything looks fine looks like that lump under my arm is just post op fluids and apparently no metastasis anywhere  so I’m still stage 1A yay !

They’re going to finish the preparation for the RT  and don’t call me next week I’m thinking I might start Tuesday or Wednesday oh my goodness .

The bad :  nothing, just a little scared about the radiation

I send a big hug to all my friends and have a great weekend

    Liliana

  • Hi Liliana.

Thats really good news especially now you can move on with your treatment a little reassured. Thank you for your thoughts,

    Good

Feel much better now antibiotics have kicked in. Not so tired or lethargic.

    Bad

Antibiotics seem to be making me feel sick and go to the loo. Same ones as I had before, lower dosage but more side effects. Strange. Histology results looming!

I hope everyone finds some good in today.

  • Morning Liliana, or for you, evening/night. That’s fantastic news!

I managed no skin damage at all during and after rt. I was moisturising three times per day before I started and four during. I wasn’t given anything by the Oncology centre, just told to use what I usually use by way of moisturiser. Not helpful so I did a bit of research on some of the chat sites and came up with my own skin care regimen based on what seemed to be the best ways of treating skin during all of this. I should add at this point that I am milk white. The radiotherapists were very surprised that I got no skin issues at all.

  • Afternoon peeps

Liliana the lil ones are my grandchildren 5 and a just turned 3 yr old ️ Love t bits. I look after them while their mammy ( my daughter) nd their daddy are at work... more tiring than when I worked full time ( I’m 61 nd took early retirement last yr just before I was diagnosed).

well Liliana a big shout out of go you on your fantastic results ( hope for others who are waiting that it’s not always bad news :-).

sundial here’s to 3 being the charm with yours being the next results :-) deep breaths- I’m keeping everything crossed for u x

jbains well u have been nd back on yr jollies before I can get my act together to say have a goodin. So.... glad u had a goodin lol. I loved LA  and you not only got to see it but family too... perfection. OMG what a hefty bill... even with insurance. When I was there I was having breakfast nd started chatting with the waitress nd she told me the yr before her husband had a heart attack... they did have insurance but to cover some of the bill they had to re mortgage their house bless. Yes we grumble at times but our NHS is phenomenal.

rileyroo have u got your screening appt yet? Mine is due next month ( not got appt yet) nd know u r a month ahead of me. Gotta admit I’m feeling anxious already :-(

the good:- 2 loads of washing done dryed nd put away. Swimming done. Shopping done. Coffee nd catch up with daughters done. Finallly  prone in garden with book nd wine..... hoorayyyyyy :-)

the bad :- can’t believe how tucked I was looking after lil ones this wk! Hope t recharge batteries for next wk lol

have as good a day as u can peeps.... hugs too all who need ️ X

  • I just used Nivea moisturizer daily plus some aloe Vera gel on any burnt bits. If you get any funny rashes under your boobs ask doctor to prescribe some Timodine cream. Also I wore a sports bra with no underwire day and night when sore.

Good luck for treatment it's not so bad. My skin started recovering after about 2 weeks once RT finished. x

  • I used aveeno in the run up. Was given Q.V. cream by hosp to use during treatment and still use the aveeno cream now. My skin was fine throughout ... well got a brown tanned look. 9 mths since finished RT and you can still just see the tanned brown look.
