The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Hi Sandra

Had two very traumatic late night visits to A and E. Upshot is I’ve got to have a scan to check if I have a DVT so on thinners again until Thursday when I have my appointment at hospital. Infection still not cleared. GP told me to go back to my consultant,

  • Thanks for the cyber hugs :) Im not too worried. I find it quite therapuetic pulling out hair lol. My hairs rubbish anyway so looking forward to starting over when it starts growing back although it'll be predominanty grey as my family all started going grey in their 20's. Cheers Mum!

Dont think its possible to send a cyber massage. If I could I would lol x

  • Bless... u gotta have stockings back on too? ( u cut last ones off so going with if yes u need new nd not needle nd thread lol).

So did GP say he would arrange seeing yr consultant or do u have to ..... questions questions questions lol x

  • Aw I’ll take the cyber massage lol. Grey hair is why they invented hair dyes :-) all hail the inventors of hair dyes lol x

No not the dreaded stockings at the moment so no needle and thread required.

No I have to arrange an appointment through specialist nurse. Rung her but she’s not in her office. Waiting a return call.

Trouble is there are too many medical teams involved that no one wants to take responsibility. City hospital carried out op, Local hospital dealing with blood clotting t query and scan, Large GP surgery managing wound infection, They all want the others to take me on....very frustrating.

Well as my mum used to say - it’s no good being awkward without showing it! :-)

Hello friends, I wanted to know how everyone did after lumpectomy, did you had to stay in bed, lots of pain, no pain.  How long it took you to go back to work. I kind of want to know what does it feel or how one feels after the surgery so I know what to expect. If I can be alone since I live alone or I need overnight company, anything that you can provide it’ll help me in this moment of uncertainty for me .  Tomorrow I am meeting my radiation therapy doctor I believe for the markings and then immediately after that I will be scheduled for surgery, and I will keep you all updated. I am so scared, I just hope they don’t find anything else or my lymph nodes are not involved , If they are I’m going to need chemotherapy instead of hormone therapy so I’m praying

Thank you and  I’m sending a warm hug to everyone

Specialist nurse phoned and said she would speak to consultant. She rang back a couple of hours later with an appt for 10 on Friday. He should have blood test, swab and scan results by then and I’m going tomask him if I can be dealt with at the city hospital for everything. Who knows? He might say yes!

  • OK. So... very little pain after lumpectomy, mine was done as day surgery. The worst bit was all the hanging around before. I got out of bed and started moving around as soon as I got back from theatre. Went to toilet etc. I also got back into my own clothes. Can’t speak for anyone else but I was very thirsty so started drinking water as soon as I could.  Was discharged and home three hours after surgery.

I think most  say that it’s the underarm where the nodes are taken that are the most uncomfortable. I guess you’ll be given exercises to do and they really help you to get moving again. For me, surgery was the easy bit.

  • Thanks for the response .  I heard that before about that the worst part it’s the hanging around before the surgery. How long was your surgery? They told me it takes about an hour and a half to two hours that’s a long time  ...
