The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Well lovely ladies, I know it is  late but I have a tale to tell. Firstly though well done all these people who have got through the day. Whether it be treatments, results, waiting or sadness. Today is done.

My story starts whilst making hubbys lunch as he waited for care at home nurse to come and watch him inject himself with his new meds (another story for another day). I was removing tea cakes from the toaster and they were very hot. rocked forward onto my toes to deposit said hot tea cake onto the plate when..... crack goes my ankle sending a shooting pain up my foot.  This is the ankle I sprained badly several years ago  which took nearly a year to mend.

Fast forward to 6-30 and my ankle is like a balloon and felt as if jaws had its jaws round it. It was swollen to start with, courtesy of the lovely compression stockings ceremoniously cut off last Sunday. So when son and heir arrived home from work instead of having my tea, I went to A&E.

Fast forward four and a half hours and an X-ray later the nurse practioner said.....No stress fracture as was originally thought but might get a phone call tomorrow revising that. Couldn’t rule out that it wasnt something caused by op and lovely stockings and if got worse go to gp or back to hospital for blood tests and scan. Have you tried to get a gp appt these days? Couldnt get one yesterday for them to look st my infected incision. Oh and yes I think you’ve sprained it again. Go home, take paracetamol and put ice on it.

Id had no tea, no insulin injection. I was hungry, cross and my blood sugar had rocketed. And my ankle hurts more where it’s been prodded and pushed around for the X-ray. So as you can see I’m still awake after eating  a packet of hula hoops and half a twirl purchased at the hospital.

i just have to smile. In the scheme of things this adventure is small fry.  But only I could add this to my list of hospital and doctors visits. And I’ve not even started RT yet. Sorry for the long post. Although it’s not good, it’s sort of amusing in a weird.way. I give you permission to smile at my sorry tale!

  • Hi beach

yes it is still early days for u. Yes your results were the best u could hope for but u went through the op the same as a lot of us ... getting well again will take time.

I wonder if u r experiencing the low mood I was warned about... apparently it is very common. It’s kinda like u are strong while going through everything then when all the appointments stop and everything eases up.... u have the time to then take stock of what happened and actually then have to deal with it.

Some have sort the help of their GP and got referred to a counsellor to talk through their feelings etc.

How u are feeling is totally understandable and normal.

Hope u r feeling better soon and if not perhaps a GP appointment may help x

  • Afternoon sundial

    well... that’s a tale nd a half!

So glad it’s not a fracture... mind u still bad about the sprain.

Have u ever had a Dexa Scan to check your bone density? Given what happened nd them thinking possible stress fracture... might b the way forward. Well good luck getting a GP appointment they are apparently rarer than hens teeth ;-)

hope u are not in too much pain bless x

  • Afternoon all :-)

im just back in from early morning swimming, daughters for coffee, shops nd pub for food :-)

    bad :- none... yay

good :- was chatting with daughter yesterday about how I’ve done a fair bit of travel but seen very little of here nd Europe ( always said do far flung hols while got health nd cash - do Europe etc when that changes). Anywhose went t hers for coffee tday Nd she has booked us a week at a spar hotel in Scotland... whooop whoop. Chuffed t bits... 9 days nd counting :-) ️ My lil family ️ X

  • Hi there my musketers ... can't believe you remembered ... well impressed .. though think other Sandra was on board then too ... well who'd think you are still here and together ... even with some lovely newish lasses ... have to change the THREE musketers to the too many to count musketers ... with superwoman (warriorqueen)

Well how wonderfull Sandra.. what an amazing surprise ... can we all come ...lol ...

Beachbabe ... I wish they'd give some counselling to those with all clear .. instead of just thinking all's good .. I've heard so many go through confusing emotions after ... so your not alone ... I had that a bit when told my grade 3 was contained and low risk, after I'd known it was there 2 years earlier ... I felt so guilty ... kept thinking why ... still can't make sense of it ...

Big hug to you all ... Chrissie
