The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Didn’t give mine chance to get hot! Kept aloe vera in the fridge at home and at work and if I could feel it getting hot I went to the loos and slapped some on! Yes I was that pedantic!

  • Good Information. I was recently diagnosed about a week ago with breast cancer I don’t know if it’s metastized yet , having Cat scab Monday ( and I’m hoping and praying it’s only my breast ) But after surgery I’m gonna start the radio therapy and I’m allergic to the sun so I’m expecting all kinds of side effects from it. I think the aloe vera it’s a great idea now doesn’t that leaves a thick film on your skin ? Just asking so I’m prepared.

    Thank you

  • The stuff I bought was a gel. I used to put it on as soon as treatment finished, there was only a thin film on top of my skin so I used to put a tissue in my bra until I got home. By that time the gel had done it’s work so I wiped it off gently with either cool water and a flannel or a water based wipe. I put moisturiser on then and went to work

Don’t forget to moisturise your back as well, the radiation will exit your body there so just as likely to cause problems. A paint roller can help with that!

  • Thank you Rileyroo . Great information!! I’m so happy I doung you guys !

    Hugs

  • You find your own way thro this. Certainly in this country, some radiotherapy depts supply cream and don’t want patients using anything else. Where I went supplied nothing so I had to find my own way of dealing with it.

  • Hiya ladies. I had 6 weeks mon-fri with weekends off. I tanned straight away, got red hot and sore and peeled and burned after. I used pure lavender oil in my e45 every day which helped. Yep still tanned from armpit to entire boob. Keep doing exercises as muscle seizes up during rad and after. For me breast cancer haven aromatherapy massage was a saviour.

Remember your cancer is unique to you and every one reacts differently. One day at a time - onwards and upwards.

  • I can only imagine what you must be going thru with chemo. Hang in there and one day at a time. Some days will be better than others but we just have to accept what it is as frustrating as it is.

I pray every night to give anyone battling camcer strength and love and I really do mean that. Keep going - you guys are doing great!

  • Morning peeps

My RT dpt supplied me with Q.V. cream in my mark up session before I started RT, I was also given a tube of Flaminal Hydro - to use if I went red or itchy- I never used the Flaminal as not needed. I had already started moisturising with aveeno cream in prep - never too early t start.  I was told t apply x2 day... that is most certainly not enough.   I carried mine in my bag and put on literally every 2 mins lol. Put on before I got dressed after RT and continued from when I got up to as I went t bed. As it ran down I asked for a anther tube nd they happily supplied. I did put on my back too. I used my post op support bras looking on it as not mattering if they got discoloured (they did) cos they were doing the last of their job before being binned. X

  • The bad :- reading about all the newly diagnosed on here.

the good :- reading on here the support given to those who need and the strength people can find when they need too.

today :-  normality - shops, pub for lunch, chillax the rest of the day. It’s the little things eh.

Have as good a day as u can peeps x

  • Morning all

    Good

Letting air to my legs, stockings off and showered - true the little things. Started a new knitted baby dress. I’m smiling today.

    Bad

The usual but nothing of great importance.

Today going to relax, do a bit of knitting, sit by the koi pond weather permitting, enjoy the air on my rashful (is that a word?) leg. :-)) and forget about Tuesday.

    Have a lovely day everyone.
