The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Hi. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago, I had surgery a few weeks later and it’s the most nervous I’ve ever been, but you’ll be absolutely fine, I was it’s just a long day waiting around xx

  • Good morning clarebear and glad u have dropped by :-)

ah brill 2 yrs post op. Would love to know how things are going 2 yrs on if u feel like sharing:-

all currently on this thread are indeed post op ( if anyone is reading nd newly diagnosed or waiting for results op etc..you too are welcome to join in ). Wonder [@clairebear]‍ if you have read my 1st post nd not clicked on the tab to toggle you to latest post :-)

anywhose me dear thanks for posting would love you to join in with the rest of us on this post :-) x

  • Yes better at home. At least I slept. Just couldn’t get comfy in hospital, in bed, chair or standing. Arthritis well and truly kicked in.  But staff were fantastic and gynae being part of private ward they were not busy and had time to care not just give out meds and do obs. Just sad I was too uncomfortable to appreciate it.

Feel absolutely whacked today, worse than after the actual op. Lol

Thanks everyone for messages, they are much appreciated.

  • Ah same as me stitches wise :-) can’t remember did u have nodes taken.. Think a little easier if u didn’t... that’s where mine still seemed to pull -where I stretch up or carry things like heavy shopping bags.

sounds like they r really looking after u...they are good people :-) x

  • I was suprised I had 5..I did say others I’d spoken with had less why did I need more. They said it varied because it was dependant on the area to b radiated for how many they put on.

Mind u I’d lay odds on me nd thee had same area done. I prob needed to object to the number they gave me... way before now lol x

  • I was  lucky no nodes taken out just two lumps and margins! Second lump was behind first lump so had to go in deeper (ouch) but then gave me another week off work so 3 weeks instead of 2 then 3 weeks light duties. Think I will be ok at work they have been very supportive since the day I told them. The worry will be once soreness goes and I see something needs doing and I will think I can do that when really I shouldn’t be! Being still a little sore reminds me not to do things x

  • I saw 5 but slowly going it’s the bruising which looks awful!  Still from the Biopsies and the area plus Looks like 4 finger marks x

  • Ah that’s brill not having nodes taken ...will help in the time to recuperate :-)

dont forget u are still early days though so give yourself time to heal - will b so worth it in the longer term:-) x

  • I promise I will be good I will get the men to do the heavy work I will just pick up cardboard!! Least I will be there to keep them in order haha x

  • Bless. My sts were internal too nd have no idea how many I had lol. I was really lucky cos I had very little bruising...none at all till about a wk later there was 2 10p sized circles appeared - pale yellow colour... no where near where my incision was!

Oooohh er mrs.. u get t boss men around.. uh huh ;-) x

  • Where I had Biopsies done was still bruised so the ones from operation just joined them! My breast is so colourful then when the “finger” mark bruises showed up purple made it more colourful!

To be fair the men on my dept are fairly good and don’t mind having a woman boss x

  • Hi everyone

On the subject of bruises. I have four small incisions. Two are fine, one is infected and the fourth is displaying a long very purple bruise. So you can never tell what will happen even in different places on one body!
