The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

  • Hi warrior queen

new tyres are expensive here’s to you having a smoother drive just watch out for the potholes :0

good: I’ve had a lovely weeekend with family and lots of visitors

bad: im shattered, today’s lazy sofa film day for me.

More info on gaining weight with the medication would be grateful, can’t afgord to gain weight got a wedding dress to get into in 14 weeks. Does everybody with breast cancer have this medication?

    Happy Monday all xx

  • Think it’s possible to gain weight with both Tamoxifen and Aromatase Inhibitors. I lost shed loads whilst I was going through the factory (treatment) and at 6 months I still haven’t gained it all back thank heavens. I was a bit of a chunky monkey before that.

  • I think best thing is to discuss it with your medical team. I had estrogen and progesterone positive and premenopausal so I think it does depend on you. There were blogs on breast cancer care forum that I read which alot of women put on weight whilst taking tamoxifen. We all react differently and I also had pcos before being diagnosed. I lost alot of weight before diagnosis and during treatment but my love for cakes has aided in my weight gain as well as age spots on my left cheek. I'm being pished thru menopause so perhaps it's linked to that. I walk alot so let's look great - tummy not so much. I lost my taste for meat and fish so you'd think I'd lose even more weight but no chance and I'm not limiting it even further to no cakes!! Life is for living. I've made many adjustments but not the cake I'm afraid!
  • Hoping I’ll find out on the 30th April what medication I’ll be prescribed. That’s good you haven’t xx

  • Just think it can take  a while to adjust to what your body has been through and you might feel very tired at times. My instinct when feeling like that is to eat, maybe I ahould have overidden instinct but cake, who does not like cake?!

  • Yes your right it’s all a waiting game isn’t it

my fsh levels are double what they should be they think I might be going through the menopause so I’m having other investigations.

Life is for living and cake is so good xx :)

  • Hi again ladies:- just back from Carvery for lunch...half price voucher so gotta b done.

My BC was oestrogen positive ( I was told this at biopsy results I had done with scan before my op. So have known from the beginning I was gonna b taking Letrozole. Was advised of all the potential side affects ( potential is the buzzword here). Told could put on weight. I put on 5 pound at Easter- 2 has come off just the other 3 to get rid of. I hasten to add this was actually nothing to do with the Letrozole ( I would love to blame it but it’s cos I have been eating for England lol). At the review last wk the consultant asked about side affects... I started to say well I was getting night sweats but they have stopped and.... he interrupted nd said yes yes...we basically just need to know if they make u feel like u are dying....ok then...I’m fine. Good.. good.!!! I liked the other surgeon I had better, I could understand him, he was polite nd tbh a bit of a hotly:-0... Well he was:-).

Anywhose...hows the post op posse doing:-)

Hope 1st day at work is going well warrior (sucks about needing new tyres:-/).

Lasses ... sorry but...I don’t even want t watch a marathon whilst sitting eating cake in case I get a stitch from watching their efforts;-0. So no marathon running for me I’m afraid:-) I might if pushed run after an ice cream van tho;-).

Nikki... where are u nd how u doing:-). X

  • No dessert... I know..must do better;-)

Was lovely but...no mashed potatoes!!! Apparently there was a technical problem with their equipment (I wonder if this is tech speak for- our pan has a hole in it). Anywhose still stuffed t the gills lol x

My normal surgeon is lovely too. Don’t know if cos I’m doing well I just got a minion:-/  was.....rather mature- so not sure if his bedside manner will improve. But hey... good news is good news however it is imparted lol.

I’m delighted to say your sound like you are doing really well...go u, go u :-). Our lovely warrior has her results meeting tomorrow - wishing you good news me dear will b thinking of you. X
