Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • Hi Carol been to oncologist appointment this morning nearly waste of time he's cancelled pet scan says ct showed enough then says i need a bone scan just to make sure. Oh and gave me blood form he forgot last time,,. Hope you're well and hubby gets sorted soon, best wishes.. Billy xxx

  • So I've gone down with a horrible cold which I'm dosing with hot lemon and honey, paracetamol and laying like a Sloth on the sofa!  Hubby got worse as well, we've decided that four days of partying is now beyond our endurance, we've popped out to get food and that's it.  So hopefully you're all doing as well as you can.  See you soon.  Love Carol x

  • Hi all, still pretty rough, GP appointment PM today, I'll let you know. Xx

  • Hi all, sorry to have gone quiet on you! Billy, I'm sorry to hear your latest news. I hope you're feeling better soon Carol. Gloria, are you feeling better now? I know exactly what you mean about coronation street, it's been so hard to watch and Sue, I love hearing your stories from down under. Hope your weather has improved!

we managed to make our trip. We went to Tromso in northern Norway where we saw the northern lights dancing in the sky 2 nights running. That was on both our bucket lists so we can consider that wel and truly ticked! Today however has not been so good. Bad news that his treatment is not working and so they are stopping it. He now has to have a brain scan. If it has not spread to his brain they will give him radiotherapy to his eye and will also try a different chemotherapy. The chances of it working are slim as he has already had the best stuff apparently. He says that until they tell him there's nothing more they can do there's hope.

    Take care everyone, Anthea xx

  • I've got a high temperature, my oxygen levels are low and a chest infection but having just read your update Anthea, my petty illnesses pale into insignificance.  It's so hard living each day on a knife edge but like yours my husband has never given up.  We even laugh about it sometimes, a small pension of £500 per annum is now going to be offered as a lump sum, that's great we both say, we'll get more money, you can go on a shopping trip!!  We struggle when I'm unwell, I'm not hungry so hubby is going without, it's fine he tells me, I need to lose weight, having seen the photos from last weekend, it's true.  I'm going for a nod off now as I've not slept well for five days.  See you tomorrow.  Carol x

  • Hi everyone,

Billy, I can't remember if it rained or not, but it was cold.  I get they are trained, and you aren't, but why can't they train you to use it also.  The carers are probably only there an hour or two each day.  It just doesn't seem fair to make you lift Bren without any aid.  I know, it's how the system works, it's probably the same here too.  I know you worry about Bren, but try not to worry until it happens it doesn't do you any good and won't change a thing, and besides you may not need chemo for ages, you've done well to date, I hope you continue to do so.  So, so sorry to hear Bren's diagnosis.  Like Carol, I know what you'll be going through, Mum had dementia and while I didn't care for her full time, I did spend a lot of time visiting and caring for her during my visits.  It will be hard for you both.

Gloria, Good to hear you keep bouncing back despite lingering affects of chemo.  Keeping busy for the most part, and I love having Eli here all the time, Nick and Deana too, although this last week he has had a few tantrums.  Deana's finding them very frustrating, as he really has been such an easy baby on the whole.  She thinks he has learnt from watching others in daycare but really I think it's the age.  He is still a joy though even with his tantrums.

Carol, How can they do that to poor Ella even after being told "no egg".  Hopefully she has recovered from it now but it would have spoilt the night for her, and I don't blame her not wanting to go back there.  Happy to hear that all had a great time during the family visit.  Sounds like we've both caught what the granchildren have had.  I was down most of last week with a bug I'd caught from Eli.  I've recovered now though. Hopefully now that you've seen the Dr, he will have given you something and you'll be much improved in no time.

Anthea, Our weather is still very much up and down at present, a few days of lovely weather high 20's even into the 30's then cold and wet again, tomorrow cold and possible high winds.  Good on you both ticking of a couple of items from your bucket list.  Not good news about the chemo not working,  with my hubby the radiotherapy did what it was supposed to, so hopefully it will do what the chemo hasn't done.  And you never know the new chemo may just work for your hubby.  A positive attitude works wonders too, stay positive regardless.

I went to Rotary last Tuesday, then had Eli on Wednesday even though I felt dreadul, I went to bed almost as soon as Nick got home.  I was planning on going to Aunty Norma's funeral on Friday but wasn't well enough, Deana and Brianna both went though.  Monday I took it easy, then today I went to a Melbourne Cup funtion and had a great day,  Nice lunch, good company, we had sweeps on each race of the day.  I had a win with one of the races (not the actual cup), had a second place on the cup but because of interference it was knocked back to 4th.  They have prizes for the best hat, fashions on the field, both mens and ladies.  It was a lot of fun.  And it raises money for our local hospital.  Then tomorrow I have Eli, and tomorrow night I'm going to a Ladies Night at one of our local restaurants, another fundraiser but this time for the homeless.

Take care everyone, and love to all.  Sue xx

  • I really hope you're feeling better soon. Never think of any illness you have as petty! We both still feel a bit numb this morning. I have told him though that maybe the cheaper medicines will work on him better as he likes cheap! Always bought Tesco's blue stripe when he lived alone!  I'm back at work today which I'm not looking forward to. Feeling very emotional but I know I can just walk away if anyone upsets me and my colleagues will cover me. Could be interesting! Best get myself some lunch before I set off. Xx

  • Hi everyone. Anthea sorry to hear the treatment dident work for your hubby. I’m the same. I had CHOP Chemo and radiotherapy but had more lumps appear after the treatment. My oncologist sees me every 6 months now. He said if the lumps/ sores come too often or don’t heal I will have more radiotherapy. Watch and wait I suppose. These days though there are so many more treatments to be tried so dont lose hope. I went to Norway a few years ago. Beautiful country but not lucky enough to see the Northern lights. How wonderful for you both. Carol I do hope you start to feel better soon. There a lot of nasty bugs about. Sue I love hearing about your life on the other side of the world. Hope you feel better now after your bug. Billy so sorry to hear about your Bren. Get all the help you can for you both. You need it. Really autumn here now. Beautiful colours in the trees. I’m just trying to gather a bit of energy to tidy up the garden. Trouble is I have a really bad back at the moment and some days feel yuk but I try to keep going and do a little each day. I think the chemo leaves you with aches and pains in the bones but I’m still here that’s the main thing. I hoping to be strong enough for my granddaughter Charlottes graduation from John Moores University . It’s to be held in Liverpool’s cathedral on the 22 nd Nov. Very proud of her. She has started work as a social worker. Since I was on last I have had a new baby great granddaughter. Georgia Emily born in the Isle of Man. 8lbs 8ozs. Two of my granddaughters and their hubbys live in IOM. That makes me 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Expensive Christmas but love them all so much. I am lucky. Lots of love to you all. • Hi sue the hoist legally needs two people to use it, luckily we got measured up for ceiling hoists yesterday which i can use on my own,. This afternoon bren going to hospital for some tests (neurophysiology) to check mussel reaction and nerves then hopefully we'll find out something, hope you're keeping well, oh and all the "good" ladies on here, hope you've started Christmas shopping it won't be long now,...... Billy xxx

  • Hi everyone,

Billy, Really good to hear you've been measured up for ceiling hoists that you'll be able to use.  Hope you get some good results from the tests Bren is having.  Keeping well here, hope you and Bren are also, well, at least as well as you can.  I just asked Deana this afternoon, what we were doing for Christmas, (meaning the Christmas Tree) last year she put a tree on her wall made of christmas tree lights.  Eli had just started walking and her 2 cats are absolute devils with the baubles on the tree.  Not sure whether the tree will go up this year here but the outside decorations will definitely be put up.  I have bought 1 present for Christmas so far, but will have to make an effort soon as it does creep up really quickly.

Gloria, Autumn is a beautiful time of year, and we are back to winter weather, wish we had some more Spring weather.  Bitterly cold and wet.  We've had more rain so far in Nov than we've had the previous few Novembers.  We froze doing the BBQ today, although sales were way up, I guess something warm when it was so cold out.  I was glad when we finished so I could come to my warm house.  Wonderful news about the granddaughters Graduation.  It would be a shame to miss her Graduation, It's one of my girls (Bree's) birthday the same day.  Congratulations on the birth of Georgia Emily.  Your Christmas's will be getting very expensive, but so worth it.  Grandchildren are wonderful.

Anthea, Can understand your feeling "numb", it takes a while to sort of get your head around each new bit of info.  As Gloria said there are so many different treatment options, and even though the chemo he had didn't work, it doesn't mean none will work.  As your hubby said there is still hope.  How did you go back at work?  Hope it went ok, although I know how hard it can be to concentrate on other things, when you're worrying.

Carol,  How are you now? Recovered from your chest infection.  How is Norman?  Hope he is doing well.

I went to the Ladies Night last Wednesday, wasn't a bad night, A glass of champers on arrival, lovely nibbles and lots to buy if you were interested.  All that after I'd had Eli all day, but he was good.  I'm becoming an expert on the "Wiggles".  A favourite of Eli's.  Been at home since then until today.  Had the Bunnings BBQ today.  It was so cold and wet, so I was very glad once we'd finished and I could come home and thaw out.  I actually put the seat warmer on in the car to come home for the few mins it takes, it helped.  Might be a quieter week this week only Rotary on Tuesday evening, then nothing planned till the weekend.

Take care and love to all.  Sue xx
