Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • Dear Sue, I posted yesterday but it disappeared into the Internet sky. The site has been playing up.  So Norman seems a lot better and today has been good.  A beautiful day, Sue came for lunch and to drop off a card for Lisa. We ate alfresco, had raspberries and creme fraiche and cranberry juice, it was lovely.  Norman and Debbie are back so the lawn is mowed and they're glad to be home, it's nice to go away but even nicer to come home.  I'm hoping it's a lovely day tomorrow and we can wander Covent garden without getting drenched.  So not much to report I'll let you know how my day goes.  Love Carol x

  • Dear Carol,

Quite a few have mentioned the site was playing up, I've been lucky and missed it this time.  Really good to hear Norman seems a lot better today.  Your lunch sounds lovely.  Nice to hear the lawn has been mowed.  A holiday is always wonderful but it so nice when you come home again.  Hoping for a lovely day so you can wander around Covent Garden.

I haven't done too much.  The Rotary dinner was lovely last night.  A few of us went to the other Rotary Club here last night.  They had their Changeover Dinner.  Food was really good and I sat with a lovely group of people, most whom I'd never met before.  Then today I've had Eli.. poor Eli has a cold at present so he was very quiet today, lots of cuddles and a sleep for him this afternoon which he doesn't usually have.  He usually has a nap late morning and wakes just before lunch.  He had a nap earlier this morning and then fell asleep eating lunch.  He was so tired I was able to wash his hands and face, unclip him and lift him out of the high chair and lay him down on his little coach, and he didn't stir.  He was bordering on a temp so I'll find out in the morning if I have him tomorrow.  If he has a temp they don't want them at childcare, which is understandable.

Have a great day tomorrow.  Take care and lots of love.  Sue xx

  • Hi everyone, I had a marvellous day with Lisa, lunch at Covent Garden was so nice and we were treated like princesses as it was her birthday.. Free cocktails were served and after lunch they put a lit candle in her dessert, waiters attentive so I left a hefty tip, they pract bowed as we left!!  Crikey it was hot though, too hot to walk about so we sat and drank iced coffee, nattered away and chilled out.  Lots of jewellery shops to look in, there is one shop that sells everything with bee designs so she bought a watch and apparently thirty pounds go towards bee sanctuarys.  We met her work colleagues and they had put balloons everywhere and bought a chocolate cake, how lovely!!  We met them for drinks after work, had a couple of gins and I suddenly realised it was six twenty and my train left at seven and I was still in covent garden!!  So off I set to get back on time, I made it by the skin of my teeth as I realised I'm not as fast as I should be after a free cocktail a bottle of rose and two gins!!  So I'm home safe and we're off to see the consultant at 4pm I'll let you know how it goes.  Love Carol x

  • Dear Carol,

So glad you had a great day with Lisa for her birthday.  Lucky yu caught your train also.  I hope you have more of them that we do here.  There are only three each way to and from Melbourne.  Hope your appointment with the consultant goes well tomorrow.  Will have everything crossed for good news.

I was at Deana's last night as she was going to the flower market this morning, and as Eli was so unsettled last night I wasn't able to nap till he woke up so styping this and nearly asleep.  So will keep it short.

All the best for tomorrow, take care and lots of love Sue xx

  • Dear Sue, not a lot to report as no X Ray was taken.  Usual carry on with the drive there, I'd only got to the end of the road when he grabs the door handle and shouts Whoah!!  I nearly jumped out of my skin. Apparently I was too near the kerb and that was all the way there and back,  I am not driving next time, he drive himself and get pushed in a wheelchair.  So the consultant was running an hour late so we sat in silence in the boiling hospital waiting room until 5.15pm.  He couldn't hear what the consultant was saying, why don't they speak up when they are dealing with older people, it's so annoying.  He's got wheezes all over his chest apparently but as they said it's to be expected with the cancer and damage that's been done.  We came away with no further action until we see our consultant in September.  I'm off to Durham this afternoon to see my old Legal clerks who I worked for.  It's a nice day but a cold breeze, it never seems to be just right!!  Lisa had a lovely birthday yesterday and received some nice presents.  So I hope you're having a good weekend, speak soon.  Love Carol x

  • So I went to Durham but Suzanne had a family emergency and couldn't go until 5pm, so I would miss her.  When I found the pub Bill spotted me and shouted me over, I've not seen him for five years, how are you he enquired, I'm well thanks, oh I'm not he says, I've  had a knee replaced, my heart wired, I have prostate cancer and also have macula eye disease so they are taking my driving licence away, and I thought we had problems!!  Oh God I thought this is going to be a fun afternoon.  Anyway the girls arrived and we sat outside, it was scorching hot and no umbrellas, just then a crowd of drunken men arrived aged 30 to 60 years old, spotted us and one promptly sat next to me, the oldest I hasten to add, guess where we're from he says, no idea, Scotland I say sarcastically, no, Jarrow, this is geordie land and they speak their own language up there!  The others decide to go to another pub but I've had enough and my car parking is running out, so I go home.  Hubby is in the garden drinking larger so I join him with a gin and we do the crossword, at least I can understand what he's saying.  Dear Sue, hoping you've had a decent weekend and that the family are well, I just remembered you asked if I would see my bridesmaid again, do you know it never crossed my mind but I know  where she is so I can always pop back and see if she wants to do that. Much love, Carol x

  • Dear Carol,

Can't believe they didn't even take an x-ray.  Although I guess, with no further action at this stage, that's not a bad thing.  You realise there is a pretty good chance there was absolutely nothing wrong with your driving... Men just don't like to not have control in a vehicle.  I rarely drove when both Neil and I were going anywhere, it was only after he started treatment that I drove nearly all the time, and yes we had moments where he would be very critical of my driving.  GOt to the pont though where he didn't have a choice, if he was going to go anywhere, he wouldn't have made it so he just had to put up with my driving.  Funny though, it was him that had accidents.

Such a shame Suzanne had a family emergency and couldn't make it till later, and you missed each other.  Regardless of what's happening in our lives, there is always someone worse off.  At least when you got home you were able to have a nice drink with Norman and do the crossword.  As you said you know where to find your bridesmaid now so you can always pop back.

I tried to reply yesterday but my computer was acting up.. not sure what was wrong but the screen kept freezing, in the end I gave up but it has been fine today.  Been a quiet weekend, but that's ok.  I've done quite a bit of knitting and watched a couple of movies I had been wanting to see.  I started watching one last night (a horror), decided against watching it before going to bed, but  did watch it this afternoon.  I think I would have had nightmares if I'd watched it last night.  It wa good though.
Bree is planning on visiting sometime this week with the kids as it's school holidays here.  Will be nice to see them.  Weather has been terrible over the weekend, lots of rain and cold although warmer than it has been.  The family are all well.

My bed awaits, will catch you tomorrow.  Take care and much love.  Sue xx

  • Just a busy day cleaning!  My glass oven doors looked disgusting with the sunshine on them.  I told hubby he had to go out as I need him out the kitchen, I'm not cleaning round him, unless he needs to be rubbed down.  So he obluges and goes to see if his buggy is ready, he's cross that they've had it for two weeks, I daren'nt tell him I asked Don to sort it out, he can blame him!!  Debbie next door pops round and invites me for coffee so we sit in our scruff on her new patio furniture, it's very nice.  Hubby comes home, his buggy is done, hooray, he's happy but his neck is stiff, we may one day have a day where there's nothing wrong, but I won't hold my breath.  I call Faye but she's lost her voice, it's difficult to have a one sided conversation, but they've been to buy Alfies new school uniform, Senior school, how did that happen, he was only two five minutes ago!  Off to the pictures tomorrow I'm looking forward to it, my best friends and me, laughing, eating and drinking!!  Love Carol x

  • Dear Carol,
Cleaning... hate it but everything looks so good when it's done.  It is difficult to have a one-sided conversation, I tried that a couple of weeks ago with a girlfriend, she had lost her voice.  Senior school for Alfie, they grow up so quickly,  What age is he to be going into senior school, here senior school is about age 12.  At least I have a few years for that with Bree's.  Cass's girls one has left high school the younger is in year 7 (first year of high school).  Really though it doesn't seem that long ago that she was in prep just  starting.  What are you seeing at the movies?  Enjoy your day of laughter, eating and drinking.  Hopefully Norman's neck will be fine tomorrow, hoping it's just because he slept awkwardly.

Like you I've done some cleaning today, and went to aqua balance tonight.  Lots of washing tonight.  Tomorrow I get my nails done and then have Rotary in the evening.  Also going to Vicroads to see if I can get Neil's car transferred into my name.  Had to pick up documentation from the Solicitors today, hopefully I have all I need.  Will be nice if they stop sending me letters saying Neil can't have a car registered in his name any longer.  The wheels turn slowly.

My last load of washing has just finished so I'll get it hung and head to bed.

Take care, lots of love.  Sue xx

  • Dear Sue, I know when Mum died the stupid conversations I had with so called professional people was beyond parody.  One bank wrote to my Mother In her name saying that as she was dead she could no longer have a bank account!  I certainly gave them what for. Most departments are supposed to have a special bereavement office, they obviously need retraining.  The problem is no one reads what they write anymore when I trained to be a secretary we were taught to re read what we had written to ensure it was correct.  Things may have moved on technologically but now common sense is no longer applied.  I quite like cleaning as it's therapeutic, mess turned into neatness, dust vanished and grubby cookers sparkle!!  We're going to see the movie about the Beatles music wasn't sure I'd enjoy it but it's supposed to be good.  My nails are lasting well as I've been putting gloves on which I don't normally wear. Zumba in the morning, first time for Mary but it's the same class as Wednesday so she'll be fine.  Alfie is 12 this October, so hell be one of the newest at the school, it's scary going from Head boy to a no one but he'll cope.  I've given Norman some pain killers and two cans of beer. That should relax him.  Take care, love Carol x
