Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • It's actually sunny today and hubby is a lot better except the new inhaler has stopped working but he hasn't got upset about it and says he can manage until Monday, the saying "a week in politics is a long time"  should be applied to a week of cancer life.  I go food shopping, buy some lovely cherry scones, drive to Mary's and take them with me but she hasn't any butter as it is fattening!  I hate Flora on fresh scones, it's like putting water on cornflakes, so back home hubby and I eat the two left with lashings of butter!  Considering Mary has only lost half a pound in a week the no fat regime is hardly working.   But she's my best friend and I love her to bits so I say nothing.  So he was going for a drink but apparently there's no one he wants to talk to in the Pub so he's staying home with me, oh lovely I reply, as I had thought a few hours alone would be nice. I bought Harry a gift for doing so well last week and write a note telling him why we have sent it. Faye sent a video of Ella in her parade, talk about showing off Grandad says, and the school think she's shy!  A night at home eating and drinking for us both, then Sunday lunch at our Shaun the Sheep pub, I'm looking forward to it as my man is much happier.  Hope you are doing OK, love Carol xx

  • Dear Carol,

You finally made it to the golf club, such a shame Bob's wife has been diagnosed with cancer, as you said it's everywhere.  He will find it difficult when he is on his own.  I think men find it harder than women do once they are on their own, that's my experience anyway with people I know.  It's so not fair people going on holidays and showing their holiday snaps when you aren't able to enjoy your own holiday.  A girl's weekend would be lovely if you are able to go.  The last time I went away was not long after Neil started treatment and it was only overnight, I wouldn't have been able to go for a weekend, so understand even that may be impossible for you.  It would be nice though.

What a pity the inhaler has stopped working, hopefully they are able to give him something else to help.  I didn't think Flora was much different to butter as far as calories go, they may differ when it comes to cholesterol but I'd rather have butter even if I had to cut down the quantity.  There has been a lot talk re how healthy margarine actually is for us also.  I'll stick with good natural butter.  YOur cherry scones sound delicious.  Enjoy those few hours with Norman home and happy.  I'm glad you were able to see a video of Ella in the parade.  Enjoy your lunch out on Sunday.

Quiet day here after my busy day yesterdy when I went to Melbourne.  Tracey came over earlier.  Tomorrow I'm at the market on the BBQ stall, and I coujld end up working on Deana's stall when I finish on the BBQ stall.  They  had been having talks with Deana trying to get her there selling flowers and she is finally having a stall at tomorrow's market.  Hope she does well and sells them all.  She went to the market this morning to buy flowers.

Take care and love to all.  Sue xxx

  • Hi everyone, I didn't post yesterday as everyone called home to wish Dad a happy Father's day.  Hubby wasn't too well, the new inhaler packed in and brought in his wheeze again and I knew when I went to check if he was doing OK and he'd put his oldest shirt on to go out that he wasn't good.  Is that what you're wearing I asked, it's comfy and I want to feel comfy he replied, I didn't argue as half the blokes that go out nowadays look like they've got up and flung yesterday's clothes on that they'd dumped on the floor the night before.  Faye had sent a card with photos of us and the kids on it, Lisa had written to the best Dad ever, some stress balls and a new wallet were much admired and lunch out was lovely.  But he's not too good today as the inhaler had to be signed by the GP again so I've only just got it for him.  He looks worn out and tired, I've had a busy day mowing lawns, checking my spare Norman's house as they are in Canada, Sarah came so I helped with the housework as I had left everything last week due to the rain.  Dear Sue, we girls are on a WhatsApp chat group so everything gets posted, I don't mind as its lovely that others are enjoying their time away.  We'll done to Bree with the flowers. As long as she doesn't over stretch herself.  I have tried to book a train for Lisa's birthday but it's still so expensive, I had a reply regarding my first class journey hassle so I should get my money back which will help pay the next extortionate fare!!  So a few days away is not looking good, as like you Sue its too hard fir them to cope.  Hope all went well at the barbecue.  Love Carol x

  • Dear Carol,

Sounds like Norman had a wonderful Fathers' Day, despite him not feeling well.  It's really not worth disputing what they are going to wear.  Neil rarely wore anything nice once he was diagnosed, it was usually trackpants, a polo shirt with a jumper and jacket if weather was cool.  Hopefully this new inhaler keeps doing what it's meant to do.  You've had a busy day.  I've spent half the day (feels like it) on the phone with the bank.  I really wonder about them sometimes, must be the most imcompetant bank in Australia I think.  At least it's sorted now, and my house is fully paid for.  WhatsApp sounds like a great way to keep up with what everyone is doing.  The flower stall at the market went quite well, although she did have leftovers so they are in the shop , they should all get sold.  Will be a bonus if you get your money back from your last train trip, which will help pay for next fare.

The barbeque went well and we had a lovely sunny day both yesterday and today, although it's turning nasty from tomorrow, for the week.  Have done too much today, made a pot of chicken vegetable soupd and did have aqua balance tonight.  Tomorrow I have Eli.then again on Wednesday and Thursday.  I'll be worn out come Friday.

Take care and love to you both.  Sue xx

  • Dear Sue, I'm sat with feet up watching QVC shopping channel as like you I've done too much!  Mary rang and asked me if I fancied the Metro Centre on Thursday, like I would turn down a shopping day out!  Norman looks better after a nap and his inhaler and has had a good tea.  He eats really well and that seems to keep him going.  I love flowers, when people say oh don't waste money on flowers for my funeral, I'm like, throw as many as you want on me, even when I'm dead I would like to look pretty and smell nice!  Poor Sarah ended up covered in bleach on her leggings this morning as I forgot to mention I'd bleached the shower drain, I gave her money to buy new ones although she said no, it was my fault not hers and she's a single Mum.  It's actually stopped raining for the first time in over a week and everything looks lush and green. I'll hear from you when you get your breath back from having Eli, mine won't be coming until the summer holidays so time to recover.  Much love, Carol x

  • Just checking in Carol... bless ya ...there you are talking about wanting flowers for your funeral ... well that's a long way off ... l just want a bunch of lovely lemmon flowers ..  and a wreath that says nanny ...

See only popped on and now I'm talking bout my funeral too ... yea hair brushed .. bit of slap on ... and smell nice ... I'll have to include that in my funeral plans ... lol ..

Oh well glad your both still rolling along ... sounds like he had a good fathers day ... and hope you get your shopping day out ... well catch ya next month ... keep well .. keep smiling ...

And here's to kicking cancers butt.... big vertual hug ... Chrissie

  • Dear Carol,

Shopping is always good.  Glad to hear Norman is looking better after his nap and inhaler.  As he is eating I'm sure that helps to keep him going and healthy.  Flowers are lovely and brighten any home.  I have a vase of lovely lemon and apricot coloured carnations here at present (from Deana on Sunday).  Wouldn't you rather have all those flowers now?  You shouldn't be thinking of your funeral yet.

We had rain today and it's bitterly cold.  I actually wore my down jacket to Rotary tonight.  Eli was very cute again today, I'm looking forward to having him again tomorrow.  Deana received a phone call from the daycare centre today and they have a temporary spot for him starting next week on a Tuesday and Thursday, only till August but I'm back to 1 day a week next week till August.  Could have him 3 days a week then unless they find a permanent placement for him.

When are your summer holidays... Mid August?

Take care and lots of love.  Sue xx

  • Faye rang last night and asked if Dad liked his stress balls, he's very happy with them I say, you can use them too Mum, to relieve your stress, yes I say I can chuck mine at him and shout the sayings out as I do it, stay calm, be happy, be kind! She tells me that's not what she meant but we both start giggling.  She chats to Dad and tells him off for not demanding a back up inhaler, that's my girl!  So today I have done zumba but I feel really tired and struggled to put much effort in.  When I get home hubby has had his blood test and looks fed up so I suggest a ride out.  We take off and somehow end up in Cumbria, do we know where we are, nope I'm lost he says, good job the new car will have a Sat NAV  he says.  But like homing pigeons we find our way home, have cake and tea and he's asleep again.  So Sue I'm sorry it's so cold, I've just watered the hanging baskets because despite all the rain they were bone dry, next doors don't look good but I'm hoping they recover before they get back from Canada!  We've had our evening meal and no plans to go anywhere.  Love Carol x

  • I feel a lot more like myself today, I think sometimes the stress makes me tired and wears my brain out!  Hubby seems to have come through the depression and is dressing smartly again, a good sign.  He went to Richmond, met Don, had a man chat and a beer and came home looking tired but content.  I rang my cousin in Liverpool, a lovely long catch up, her husband fell and broke his hip at Christmas but is recovering well.  I asked about our Auntie Marion who had dementia and went into a home, how is she?  She died three years ago Denise says!!  What I exclaimed, why didn't anyone tell us, we'd both kept in touch by cards, phone calls etc.  through the family.  So apparently when she'd gone in the home she became violent, attacked another resident in her 80's and the lady died, this became front page news so they didn't let anyone know about my Aunt dying because of the shame.  How shallow did they think we were, having had a Mum of my own with dementia I was well aware of what could happen but we weren't given the chance to say goodbye, they say it takes all sorts of people to live in this world, they got that right.  See you tomorrow. Xx

  • Really enjoyed my shop with Mary. Bought a jump suit and some new PJs came home happy and hubby was really unwell.  He's giddy, sick, wheezing and has phantom pain again.  He doesn't look good, so I sit and chat, give him some pain relief and half an hour later he says he's perked up because I'm home.  He won't eat tea though and looks very grey and now has a backache.  I rang Lisa to see what she wants for her birthday and she was in a garden centre buying a Japanese maple so we've bought that for her, she says it will be a lovely reminder everytime she looks at it.  So a short chat tonight as I need to check hubby.  Carol,
