Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • Hi Chriss and Gloria, thanks for getting in touch, I feel more loved now, only joking!  It's getting quite worrying how many young people who think they have cancer, how did this happen, we would never have thought a headache or a pain in some area was cancer, are they googling it and getting answers they shouldn't?  Then they worry unnecessarily and don't see a GP.  Gloria, I'm sure in the next few weeks you will be looking beautiful again, hair is so important to us ladies, if mines a mess I feel a mess, I've never been to the Isle of Man, enjoy and hopefully the weather will be better.  You must be fed up with these lumps constantly appearing, no wonder you worry.  The christening sounds wonderful, all ours were christened in the church we married in so beautiful memories.  Harry rang me from Daddy's car last night to say thank you for his special card and money we sent him for doing so well, a gorgeous little boy who loves everyone.  So ladies we all seem to be getting on with life the best we can, no point in giving up, it's the only one we get!!  Love to you both. Xx

  • I'm sat in the car park at James Cook as I only have a free twenty minute ticket, then a three pound charge!  I'm nursing a sore arm as we called at the tip on the way.  I got all the rubbish out the boot, leave it open so hubby can drive to the next container, open the door on his side, all done I say but I need to close the boot. Apparently he only heard the first part as he then drove off with me trying to shut the boot thus taking me with it!  He is a Typical man, more than ten words and he stops listening.  So off out tonight to a Jazz night and food.. When I was in. Prague there was a basement jazz band, we never got to see it as we always spent all night eating and drinking marvelous red full bodied wine.  My companion,, Pat, she of the Myra Hindley interviews was so much more interesting that we just chatted.  So ladies hopefully you're all well.  Sue where are you? Xx

  • A lot has happened since yesterday.  The night was very good, the food gorgeous and the band very laid back.  I had four glasses of wine and came home and told hubby I was a little tiddly, he laughed and said good!  So this morning Christine picks me up, off to Pauline's coffee morning, lots of friends and cake. Christine won the raffle so that was good.  Up to the Bay Horse for lunch and when we went to pay I thought I recognised someone in the bar as there had been a big "Do" on.  She spotted me and came to say hello and it was her Mother in laws funeral, so the wake was in the pub, Faye used to stay with Lynn when she lived down South  so we know each other well, there's lots of food she says please take some, no thanks we say but she insists, so for the first time in my life I pilfer food from a wake!  Christine drops me home and I pick the post up. A parking fine for £70 for parking in Aldi on Saturday even though I shopped in there!  Then the next one is for a scan at ten past eight tomorrow, this goes back to the fast track appointment weeks ago, thanks for half a day's notice!  I call the parking fine people  can't talk to anyone just automated payment.  There is no way on God's green earth that I am paying that.  So I call Aldi, speak to a lovely lady, tell her I paid by visa, entered my Reg number in the computer on the way out and even bought raffle tickets for a cancer charity.  So I am not a happy bunny I tell her, oh we'll l probably get it waived she says, there's no probably about it I tell her politely, I'm not paying!!  So my wonderful day went straight down the pan, talk about swings and roundabouts!  I'll let you know how the scan goes

      Xx

  • Dear Carol.
Been a while but I have been busy/  Went to Matt's funeral Monday, then called in and saw Bree and the kids, then caught up with a girlfriend, didn't get home till late and was so tired from the early start I went to bed.  Then Tuesday Deana drops Eli off at lunchtime (my usual day to have him) and she goes to work.  She didn't look well when she dropped him off and was only at work an hour when she rang and said she was a lot worse.  So a few phone calls later and we have someone to watch Eli and someone to cover in the shop and I take Deana to Emergency as no appointments available at the gp's.  They end up admitting her, thinking she had gallstones, even had her booked in for surgery, they were so convinced.. X-ray's, CT scan, ultrasound all come back clear.  No sign of anything.  Blood tests show infection.  So they have her on antibiotics.  Then book her in for a gastrocope, thinking that will show something, again everything is fine.  She came home today feeling much improved although still not 100%.  So I've had Eli more often this week, watched him most nights when Nick was visiting Deana, He has been at his usual day care during the day Wed and Thurs and today.  Yesterday (Thurs) I was home and get on the computer and I can't use it, the computer itself works but my keboard won't.  It has a wireless keyboard (the cat used to chew the cord, hence the wireless keyboard) I didn't even know it took batteries, but Nick being up on computers figured it out in no time, just had to buy batteries today and put them in and it now works again.  Tomorrow Bree, Jamie and the kids are coming for a visit, so another busy day.  Sunday I hope will be very quiet.

Sounds like you did well on Mothers Day,  Does the fact that you've banned Norman from eating your goodies stop him.  I love those April Fools pranks they do on TV.  When I was a kid one of the current affairs show did a story on spaghetti trees, Yes, you read that right, They showed bushes with spaghetti  (looked like it was growing on the bush).  My father fell for it.  He wouldn't believe Mum when she told him how spaghetti was made.  They did a story a couple of days later saying it was an April fools prank.  It was hilarious. I have no idea if they did any this year, I certainly didn't see any/

I'll catch up on the rest tomorrow, it's bedtime and I'd best not be tired with Bree's 3 here.  They are so full on.

Take care, Love to all.  Sue xx

  • Just a flying visit - have been doing a lot of work at our home (well, I didn't do the heavier work but have done the "female" things like taking down the curtains and washing dusty areas I didn't know existed).  The things that lurked at the back of the garden shed don't bear thinking about.  Back down to Somerset this morning to look at some more bungalows.  May buy a laptop whilst down there as that would simplify a lot of things.  Much love.  Annie

  • Hi everyone, so nice to catch up.  Sue you sound as busy as me, at least we don't get bored, or have time to.  I posted a reply about Deanna not being well, I can't Find it now, so not sure if it went.   Norman is asleep as we had to leave at 7.3am for my scan.  Talk about short notice, like half a day, but apparently everyone there was the same, one poor guy had travelled by taxi costing sixty pounds as he didn't have time to organise any lifts.  So the iodine injection scan is complete and although tired I'm OK.  I hope all is well as I don't fancy having to go back up to Durham where the parking is worse than the people who own the James Cook car park.  I've just had a piece of corned beef and onion pie that my friend Lynn insisted I take from her Mother in laws funeral yesterday, it was delicious!  I'm still clearing drawers out and helping the economy by recycling and buying new, hubby looks bemused, more stuff he mumbles.  Lisa rang from Wales but kept getting disconnected, she said it was because she's in a different Country and they were sheltering in a cave from the wind!  She's so funny it cheers me up.  I've just put my new washer on an eco cotton wash, 4.5 hours, how the Hell is that eco!!  Hate having new appliances it takes too much working out.  Annie I hope you soon get the bungalow you want and yes a new lap top would be good.  I bet people have missed your wise words.  Lots of new people coming on the forum, it's sad how much impact cancer is having on their lives, thank goodness for research programmes.  Love to you all

  • Dear Carol,

It's awful trying to clean up beads.. they just keep rolling everywhere and as you said they made a terrible noise in the vacuum.  I have to vacuum tomorrow and wash the floors.  Bree's kids have made an awful mess.  We had some hot cross buns for afternoon tea, and Colby doesn't like the fruit in them so of course took each and every piece out.  I'm sure half of them were dropped and eventually walked into the floor (at least it's tiles), so I won't grumble.  It like a whirlwind hits when all three are here.  Eli was actually very shy when they first arrived.  They are quite loud and full on.

That's great that Normans blood tests were good and no further action needed.  He'll have to keep it up now.  Your orange trousers sound perfect for summer.  Here I am buying things for winter.  I bought a lovely blue skirt with burgundy and pink flowers on it, way nicer than it sounds.  And another longer skirt in a blue/grey marle fabric.  The Jazz night should be interesting.  Not my favourite music but hope you enjoy the night.

I need to get in and sort my wardrobe, get rid of things I never wear, one day I get to it. You've done a good job on yours by the sound of it.

Men never listen to the whole conversation, so no surprise that Norman drove off leaving you hanging on to the boot.  Hopefully there is no lasting effects.  Glad your Jazz night was good and the food delicious.  If a wake there is similar to here they are usually over catered for.  With Neil's we came home with so much food, the caterer's packed it all up and gave it to us before we left.  So many little cakes and things.  Parking fines seem espensive everywhere but I wouldn't be happy either with the one you got from the Aldi carpack.  Hopefully they will waive it for you.  At least here we don't have to pay parking fees to park in any of the shopping centres.  Unless we overstay the limit, but most of them are fairly generous with the time allowed.

I'm looking forward to a nice quiet day tomorrow after I get the floors done.

I'm off to bed now will catch up with the last few posts tomorrow.  Take care and love to all.  Sue xx

  • So today hubby has a frozen shoulder and is in pain, we think it's because he was up early yesterday for me and then nodded off in a weird position.  All he wants is a banana so he peels it, hand me the skin, what am I a human bin now I joke, promptly turn round and skid across the kitchen floor, doing the splits, bashing my finger of the cooker metal handle trying to stop myself and wrench my ribcage again. The tiniest, weeniest bit of banana has fallen on the floor and I managed to stand on it, poor hubby he nearly had a fit as he couldn't stop me!  We were gong for a drink but he's not well enough, so I have drunk my own Rose, cheaper than the pub anyway.  I have a wonderful bruise where the needle went in for my scan, we are both in the wars today.  Having washed nearly all my clothes a pile of ironing awaits me in the morning, good job Sarah is coming to help.  My new pot plant has died a death, it's been over watered, by me I hasten to add.  Sue, it's so difficult with little ones dropping food all the time, my big boy drops everything under the breakfast bar so I'm forever crawling around with a dustpan and brush.  I know when Harry, Alfie and Ella are here together it's bedlam. So hubby is having braising steak to keep his iron levels up and I'M having prawn fishcake and baby spinach, I was hungry all day after being up at the crack of dawn, not good food, just rubbish, hot cross buns, chocolate biscuits, steak pie, I'm going to have to fit another zumba class in.  Take care, love Carol x

  • Dear Carol,

I definately don't have time to get bored.  Not a bad thing, although sometimes it would be good to not have anything planned.  Corned beef and onion pie, never heard of a pie using corned beef.  Just did as search and foyund a recipe which actually sounds nice.  Like you I wonder how it can be an eco wash when it takes so long.  My washer when bought was about the most economical at the time and took twice as long as my old one.  My dryer which has a six star rating takes so long, took a long time to get used to that.  Oddly is doesn't use much power, despite taking so long.

Sleeping in weird postitions do give us aches and pains, so hopefully that all his shoulder pain is from.  Deana also has some wonderful coloured bruises on her arms from the stay in hospital.  She was here yesterday and they don't look like they have faded at all yet.  She is improving slowly but still gets very tired from doing the simplest task.  She has to go into work tomorrow afternoon for a while (her usual day off), so I'm having Eli while she is there.

You are lucky you didn't hurt yourself more when you slipped on the bit of banana, I'm sure the Rose helped ease any pain from that though.  Wash the clothes is the easy part, ironing once they are dry is the hard part, I hate ironing.  It's something I consider now, when buying clothes but there are so many fabrics that need minimal if any ironing if hung up to dry.

Your prawn fishcakes sound delivious.  I had chicken curry tonight .

Tomorrow I'll have Eli for a while in the afternoon, then hopefully I'll get to aqua balance tomorrow evening.  Haven't been for 2 weeks, but there is no reason at this stage I shouldn't make it this week.

It's school holidays here at present and Bree is hoping to come down during them for a visit, hopefully if she does the weather will be nice so we can take the kids to the park and wear them out a little.  I can hope anyway.

Annie, Hope your have some luck with bungalows this visit.

Best get my dishes done.  Take care, love to all.  Sue xx

  • Hi girls.  Gosh you all have so much going on in your lives. Hope you are ok after your banana split Carol. Annie hope you find a bungalow you like soon. Hi Sue. Yes I hate ironing and try and buy non iron every time or hang them and pull into shape after a quick tumble dry. I’m going for xrays tomorrow on my knee. Dr thinks it’s a Bakers cyst caused by my arthritis. Came out of the blue and is very painful. Difficult to walk too. Dident need anything else. Keep feeling lightheaded. Not got my strength back yet after Chemo. They say it takes at least a year. Gets me down a bit. Got to try and get out more and take short walks. My girls are nagging me and saying it’s the only wat to get feeling well again. I know it’s true but sometimes just want to stay home. Have trouble getting up in the mornings. Easier to shut myself away. Made myself get out today. Went shopping to Sainsbury’s with my daughter Cathy . Felt bit weak and wobbly but took my walking stick and quite enjoyed it. Tell you what with grey hair and a walking stick I’m an old lady all of a sudden. Having my blonde a week on Wednesday . Can’t wait. Lots of love to you all . Gloria xxx
