Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • Hi Ladies,
Julie, Sleeping is getting better slowly, at least I'm no longer waking up every 2 hours.  Usually go 5 or 6 hours before I wake now.  Hopefully Dave will be fine with Matilda there.  Neil coped really well with our 5 1/2 year old twin grandsons (only for a visit) who are very boisterous and loud.

Gloria, Don't beat yourself up over how you feel.  Not having been in your situation, I can't add anything but what both Julie and Carol have said sounds like good advice. Give yourself time to recover.  I did see what radiiation/chemo treatments did to Neil and it was brutal.

Carol, That's the worst part about aging, health issues,  At least mine are minor when compared to cancer.

Take care, love to all.  Sue xx

  • Dear all

Dave is coming home tomorrow but I will post when I can.  I'm so glad to have 'met' you all and will be back soon.

    Much love, Julie xx

  • We had to be up at 7 am to get to James Cook where I spend two hours in the waiting room from Hell.   I can't believe how many people have lost limbs, even Ian the receptionist tells me how he nearly lost his arm aged 19 years because he fell on his butchers knife and nearly bled out.  I took a book a friend had loaned me, Madeleine, by Kate McGann,  so I had a cheery morning .  I take biscuits and drink coffee whilst waiting and headache tablets!   I get dropped at Tesco, shop for the impending visits and top up my wine because if you bought six bottles it's a 25%discount , who could refuse that?  Hubby collects me and I drag it all in and have to stop him eating Harry's chocolate buttons and crisps.  He pulls a face saying I love Harry more than him, he gets one of my looks and backs down, honestly he's going to have to go on a diet, when I think back to a year ago the difference is amazing.   When we went to drop the key off last night at my cleaners I ended up at number 84 instead of 54, all these houses were built in the fifties and sixties as part of the New Town experience,  you can't tell one from the other, it's pitch dark, so we give up and go home!  The day is gorgeous but ice cold, we came back the country way and Autumn is a glorious season to behold.  So he's asleep in the conservatory where the sun is shining, me I'm enjoying my last peaceful night until Tuesday !

  • All my plans have gone away because a man is in charge ! Harry's Daddy thought Lisa was flying from Gatwick but it was Heathrow so 40 mile is the wrong dire

  • All my plans have gone awry because a man is in charge!  Harry's Daddy thought Lisa was going from Gatwick but it was Heathrow so 40 miles in the wrong direction to our house.  Never mind he says I'll go home and pack and set off again, this was 9am this morning .  11.45am a phone call, he'd forgotten to leave keys with neighbours to feed the cats, guess where they were, in the car!  So it will be tea time before they arrive,  it's because I haven't got a wife instructing me he says, God help Harry he's got him all week and they're going up to Edinburgh by train, let's hope he remembers  Harry is with him.  Hubby has gone to try his new ankle out, Faye is baking for a cake sale at the Little Gym, Ella will have to buy her own cakes back due to her egg allergy, so poor Faye has a stinking cold the children have passed on and she's baking to help cancer and her little girl.  They are coming a week Tuesday and we will have our own Halloween party, I'll bring you a witches hat she says, oh thanks!  Well it's what I have to wear she says, crossly.!  So I've got peace before the storm and & hope you all have a decent weekend. X

  • Hi Ladies, Hope all is going well with you.  I have had a couple of busy days.  I babysat Eli all day yesterday.  I was worn out by the time Nick picked him up at 5.00.  He is teething and had a cold so not his usual happy self.  Deana arrived just before 9am..she went to the bathroom and Eli was heartbroken as she wasn't in the same room.. it was an indication of how he was going to be, usually he doesn't worry when she leave.  I had to hold him for his naps, everytime I put him down he cried.  He was even fussy with his food.  After they left had a quick tidy up and shower as friends of Deana and Nick were preparing tea and bring home for the 5 of us.  Which was lovely.  So i was in bed much earlier than usual and slept 10 hours straight. Couldn't believe it, I never sleep that long even going back prior to Neil's cancer.  Must of needed it.  Then today Deana came over to borrow my kitchen.  Eli was just as fussy today as yesterday and I had to hold him for his afternoon nap.  My poor arm is still recovering, he is getting heavy.  Back to cooler weather and showers, warming up on Monday.  Tomorrow should be a quieter day.  Can only hope.
Take care, Love to all.  Sue xx

  • Hello dear friends

Dave is having a nap so I thought I'd catch up with you all.  He came home Friday and has eaten and slept well.  Lots of medication to take so I'm getting used to administering that morning and night!  Scan tomorrow, then clinic on Wednesday.  The worst thing is seeing how much weight he has lost, he's skin and bone with a pot belly due to fluid on his tum.  It's shocking how much he has changed physically. It's my job now to get him fitter and stronger.  Trying not to think too much about the next stage.

I hope you are all as well as possible.  Sue you are keeping busy and sleeping well.  We have Matilda for a few days next week which will wear us out!  Carol, your life sounds like a sitcom! How are the preparations for the big celebration going?

I'm just having a couple of hours peace while he's in bed and before I start tea (his favourite roast chicken to tempt the appetite...).

    Love to everyone, Julie x

  • Hello everyone,
Julie, It's great that Dave is eating and sleeping well, hopefully he will gain some weight now that he is home again.  You are probably of tips and tricks to give Dave extra calories but just in case you aren't here's a link  https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/coping/physically/diet-problems/managing/putting-on-weight/boosting-energy
Most of the tips we were told to try by the dietitions at the hospital here.
Today was quiet which i was looking forwrd to, only visitor was my next door neighbour with some books for me to read.  She knows I enjoy reading.
Enjoy having Matiolda next week, and I'm sure she will wear you out.

Carol, hope you have had a good weekend.
Take care, lots of love.  Sue xx

  • Yes my life is like a sitcom!  I've literally been on the go since Harry got up, lego building,  breakfast , off to trampoline and climbing whilst Daddy goes to Reeth to bike ride. Back home, change Harry, empty dishwasher,  hubby has decided he's not helping me at all!  Brush my hair, lipstick over old lipstick,  off to Reeth for Sunday lunch, back home, battleship, (me) labyrinth game, Harry and me, wash biking gear and the men read the papers and natter!  So this is my catch up, I'm pleased Dave is home and stuffing him with chicken will help!  Sue you are a good Grandma having little ones all day, it's hard work.  We're off to Digger land tomorrow , I thought Harry would just want him and Daddy, but no its me as well, so not sure if I'm actually driving diggers, my aim is to sit in the warm drinking coffee and eating cake!  It's snowing in Las Vegas,  I don't think Lisa even cares, I sent a photo of Harry climbing and she said she was that tired she couldn't see him, this was 5 am their time and the Jet lag had caught up.  So have to go now and read Beast Quest to a happy tired little boy. Xx

  • Thanks for this Sue it's really helpful!
