I'm petriified

Last March 2017 I was diagnosed with having a grade 3 sarcoma cancer. I had it surgecally removed. I have now been told the cancer has spread to my abdomen & lungs and the only way it can be treated is by chemotherapy. I have first of all got to have an echocardiogram. I am petrified of it all. I am 62 years of age and did consider myself healthy. I go out jogging every morning and eat healthily. I have never smoked and very rarely drink. The echocardiogram should be Ok I hope but then will the chemotherapy work? I'm petrifed.

    Hi Alongtime,

Welcome to Cancer Chat, the site that nobody really wants to join.

I am sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis and fully understand your fears. I have had two bouts of breast cancer. The first was diagnosed 7 years ago and the second 6 years ago. Fortunately, both of these were primaries, but I dread the day that I am told that I have secondaries – I suspect that everyone on this site feels the same, yet, for some of us it is inevitable.

This must be a very scary time for you. I hope that someone with similar experience will come along to talk to you. I have had a number of ECGs and can assure you that there is nothing to them. As for the chemo, I have not had chemo or radiotherapy, so cannot help you here. From what I gather, how you react to it is an individual thing. The fact that you are ft and healthy should give you something to fight all this with. There are many on here who may be able to help you out with this.

I know that you are petrified – we all are of the unknown, so I do hope that someone will come along to let you know about their experience.

Please keep in touch and let us know how it all goes.

I sincerely hope that it will all be worth it in the long run.

There is always someone here to talk to whenever you feel the need,

    Stay strong.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi there, I write under Stay Strong and have given an update on my hubby and his fight with stage four lung cancer he is 71 and we have just completed the last course of chemo, three months treatment.   Don't be scared as chemo is now adapted to each individual and is a lot kinder.  Yes it is a struggle but you can get through it, fear is the main block, look to the future and do what you can to fight this for all those involved in your life.  Your oncologist and nurses will help you through it. Stay strong. Caz

  • Thanks I suppose I was frightened of the ECG as I don't want the hospital to say I can't be treated. The ECG is on Wednesday 9th, but now they have phoned up & sad the chemotheraphy will start on the 23rd so they assume the ECG will be OK which is good. All I've got to do now is be strong. Thanks for your reply

  • Thanks for your reply. Yes it is a case a staying strong. The nurse has just phoned me to say the chemotherapy will start on the 23rd August, so I have just got to be stong. I hope all is going well for your husband. Thanks again for replying.

    Hi,

I am glad to hear that you have got your date for chemo now and I expect that your consultant wouldn’t have processed this if he felt that there was any doubt about your heart. Try not to worry. This is just a routine test before undergoing chemo.

If there were anything wrong with your heart I’m sure that your jogging would have brought this to the fore years ago.

Here’s hoping that all goes well on Wednesday – I shall be thinking of you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
