Sarcoma

I'm just turned 40, live in N.Wales and im a nurse. I'm living with my partner and his 3 children, all girls so kind of a Stepmum. I was diagnosed with Soft Tissue Sarcoma on R Thigh in March, this is a rare cancer. Things moved so fast, had surgery 6 weeks ago and having Radiotherapy soon.
I feel like a different person than I was, lost weight, confidence don't feel like ME anymore! Can anyone else relate to this? Please x

  • Hello Em and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis but I'm glad treatment was available. I think you echo the thoughts of many members here who have felt the same way during their cancer journeys and hopefully some of them will reply soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you.

I know you have your radiotherapy starting soon so I just wanted to wish you good luck and let you know we'll be thinking of you so come back and let us know how you're getting on when you can.

    All the best,

  • Hi Em,

I was diagnosed with a soft tissue Sarcoma 2 years ago, and had a large tumor removed. I am 47 and a Dad of 3 so I understand a little of where you are. It is very shocking when this happens, and it all moves so fast and is so scary; I felt like my life turned upside down. You are still you, it just takes time to adjust to this new unfamiliar situation you find yourself in but you will.  .

  • Hi Simon

Thanks for your reply. Finally someone who knows how i feel and i felt reasurred and relieved that it is not just me feeling scared. How are you now?

  • Hi  Emma,

It has been two years know since the op and I am fully recovered physically. It is amazing how despite them taking out a 4 kilo tumour and some other stuff, how my body has put itself back together, not quite the same as before but I feel good. I know every journey is different, but amazing things are possible. I still worry from time to time, but cancer does not rule my life anymore and I am fully well aware at each scan that I may have to follow a different path.

If you have any question or anything I can help with let me know, the mental stuff if hard to cope with and I found various techniques that helped me,

  • Hi, I've sarcoma, had all my womb ect removed as I had a massive growth size of a grapefruit. I was left so long that it broke off and went into my lungs, I'm now having chemo for it to try slow it down, as there's no cure, don't worry to much, Cary on as normal as u can, and enjoy life, it makes a big difference to your mental health, it's marvellous what they can do today,  take care. • Anyone on this post that had been diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma what were the symptoms?

  • Hi - this might be too late but I had soft tissue sarcoma in the 70s when I was 18.
The only symptom I had was lumpiness around my collarbone. (Six months prior to that, I had a large lump under my arm though this wasn't actually malignant.) Surgery wasn't possible so it was treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy
