phase2 breast cancer

Hi there, Judy here from South Africa - will be doing my 4th chemo on 26 May - 5cm tumor decreased slightly - surgery will be done after another 12 weekly light chemo - my question - should I complete this long road or can I not do the mastectomy and get it over. No lymphnodes affected. Just curious - chemo is hell - I am 62 yrs old. Best of luck to all other cancer buddies!

  • Hello Judy and welcome to our forum!

I’m so sorry to hear you were diagnosed with breast cancer and that chemo has been hell to deal with but I’m glad the tumour decreased and no lymph nodes were affected.

What you are experiencing is something many of our members can relate to so I hope they will be here soon to offer their advice and support.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi, I have just had a mastectomy, after a wide angle excision. Unfortunately they didn't remove all the affected area, so I was told that I needed another, and if successful 4 weeks of radiotherapy. I didn't feel I could deal with a one hundred miles round journey for 20 treatments and my surgeon suggested a mastectomy with an immediate implant. I am so pleased I took that option as my lymph nodes were clear. I don't need any further treatment. This is obviously my choice and other ladies might have different opinions and I'm sure others will post here. I am 72 this year and delighted with my new shape, although im too old for bikinis! I hope everything goes well for you. Best wishes.
  • Hello susarah

Im vanessa i was diagnosed with breast cancer in december 2015.

I had my mastectomy jan 2016 and started my chemo in feb 2016 - 6 rounds of FEC-T followed by 15 sessions of radiotherapy.Im now taking Tamoxifen for 10 years.

I have spoken to many women with a diagnosis of breast cancer.from what i can see it depends on which part of the country (im in uk) you are. Each hospital seems to do things slightly differently. Some do the op before treatment some after.

My only advice would be to speak with your drs and see if your treatment plan can be swapped about. But bare in mind that you may now be too weak from chemotherapy to have the operation at this time. There would be a delay until your bloods show your strong enough, and if you do have the op now there would be a delay in further treatment because you would need to recover from the op.

I honestly dont know if there is any change in the desired outcome which way around things are done?

Perhaps the nurses here on the forum could help?maybe you could post your question to them?

Also my husband is south african,so hi there in S.A.Were hoping to go back over asap....but tjjng got delayed obviously.

    take care.
