bowel cancer

hi.,ive just had op for a stage 3 bowel cancer tumour,im now up for chemo treatment of oxaliplatin and capecilabine, just wondered if anybody had this treatment and any advice or experiences would be welcome, thank you,as im feel very nervous about it

  • Hello, I'm stage 4 bowel cancer and have had six chemo cycles of FOLFOX. Oxaliplatin is part of Folfox but it doesn't sound like you are getting the two other drugs as part of this. I have it through a picc line, expect cold numb finger tips and your throat and tongue to go numb with the cold which lasts for about a week for me. My left thigh also has nerve damage and is completely numb. The chemo nurse should explain all expected side affects, I have a bit of hair thinning and I originally had a bad rash on my chest, back and face. Only seems to be my face now so I have some steroid cream prescribed to help. I'm 28 and it's affected me quite a lot but it may not all be just the oxaliplatin.
  • Sorry to hear your news & hope surgery went well. I had a right hemi-colectomy in October last year & iv been having chemo (both types you are having) since December. All i would say is chemo affects people in different ways. My body has been very sensitive to it, resulting in lots of different symptoms. The last 3 treatments i have had a reduction in chemo strength which is much better for me. I still have symptoms, however its much more manageable & can function relatively normally & live a life. I hope all goes well with your treatment
